What do getting divorced, having a baby, being a carer, getting married and driving through a massive pothole all have in common? They're all life events that have financial implications. And there are many, many more that affect your employees. In fact, as we go through the daily journey of life, there's very little we do that doesn't have a financial dimension. When we think of financial wellbeing support, the cost-of-living crisis has made the need more acute. But it didn't start the fire. We are all financial animals, with financial journeys we're on, and one of the most effective forms of support organisations can provide is helping employees navigate through their own financial journey. Which looks different to everyone else's. The pothole thing is personal, by the way. Cost over £100 for a new tyre. #FinancialWellbeing #EmployeeWellbeing #EmployeeSupport

What's the most valuable thing you own? 🤔 I don't mean what cost the most. I mean what's the thing most important to you. One of the hardest-hitting money lessons is that money can buy more than just stuff. It can buy freedom. It can buy security. Resilience. Peace of mind. It can buy purpose. It can buy motivation. It can buy us more time. Organising your money around your life is about knowing what is important to you, and using your money to achieve these aims. Ironically, oftentimes stuff helps us achieve the things above (like saving time - looking at you, air fryers). Sometimes it's more about investing or saving. And, in truth, sometimes it's fine to buy stuff just because.. well, we want to. Life - and money - must be about balance. #FinancialWellbeing #PersonalFinance #HRCommunity

Summer is something to celebrate ☀ But it can be pretty expensive. Peer pressure to go out after work Ramped up prices for holidays out of term time Social clubs at £1,045 per child (new research from Coram Family and Childcare) Family pressure to 'make the most' of the time seeing the kids We associate the Christmas period with putting pressure on employee finances, but let's not forget what impact that summer can have too. Signposting to the support you offer right now is a good idea to help address any financial concerns your team has as the weather hots up. Although, it's going to be raining all day here tomorrow... #FinancialWellbeing #WorkplaceWellbeing #PersonalFinance

Saving a little bit more money could help you enjoy better sleep. 😴 It could also help you relax and feel better about the future. This is according to research out of the University of Bristol, which found that putting money aside regularly - however little - had a range of health benefits. The benefit likely comes from less anxiety about money, less potential to experience problem debt and being better able to cope with financial setbacks. Interestingly, regular savers with low incomes felt as satisfied as wealthier non-savers. Around six in 10 UK adults have a 'savings habit' - could you boost your employees' financial wellbeing by encouraging them to save more regularly? Thanks to researchers Sara Davies and Jamie Evans. Elections often bring change for workers - and sometimes they don’t. But what they always do is get employees thinking about their money. “Will I pay more tax?” “What will happen to my student loan?” “Will the things I need to buy get more expensive?” If you don’t help your team answer these questions, they’ll get answers that may lead them astray - from social media, television, well-meaning family and friends. How can you use the election to engage your employees with financial wellbeing? Download our guide today to find out: https://lnkd.in/eyHsXjNF It has practical resources ready for your team that you can include in newsletters, emails or on intranets. #FinancialWellbeing #UKPolitics #UKElection #WellBeingAtWork #Workplace

"Great, I’ve graduated! So excited to join my first job" 😄 *Gets hit by commute prices, rent hikes, and student debt* 🙃 Many graduates describe their current situation as "hell" due to the cost of living crisis. As HR leaders, you play a crucial role in supporting new graduates through these challenging times. Here are 3 things you can do right now: 💪 Comprehensive onboarding programs: Help graduates acclimate quickly with thorough onboarding and training. Ensure they understand the benefits they have access to and know how to use them. Adam Horne and 📖 John Faulkner-Willcocks, from Open Org, posted their Open Onboarding Cookbook recently, check it out here: https://lnkd.in/e-nEM8x9 🚆 Flexible working arrangements: Offer remote or hybrid working options when possible to reduce commuting costs and give graduates more flexibility. However, it's important to balance this with opportunities for in-person interaction, as some graduates may prefer to socialise, integrate, and build connections face-to-face. Don't know where to start? Check Flexa's page for ideas! 💸 Financial wellbeing resources: Graduates are expected to manage their money like pros, but financial education isn’t taught in schools. By offering resources like this Graduate's Guide to Budgeting, written by financial professionals, you can provide invaluable support. Access this guide for free in this post to help your graduates navigate their finances with confidence. Nobody should ever have to go through hell at work. Let’s make sure we support our graduates. #HR #HumanResources #PeopleManagement #Leadership #EmployeeWellbeing #FutureLeaders #CostOfLivingCrisis #GraduateSupport #Onboarding #FlexibleWork #DEI #FinancialWellbeing

PSA: If you have an expenses policy, you’re "doing" financial wellbeing. Yes, an expenses policy is an important part of your financial wellbeing strategy – but for many organisations it’s just a hygiene factor. But it’s not, because someone at your organisation will at some point: 1) Not have enough money in their bank account but STILL have to pay for expenses upfront 2) Pay for something they’re not sure is ok, then be out of pocket when the claim is denied 3) Have to wait 6 weeks to be paid back and start to worry about paying bills 4) Lose their receipt because they have to submit expenses manually 5) Not have a smartphone and not be able to use the shiny new expenses app 6) Know that out-of-hours taxis aren’t claimable but go ahead anyway for safety reasons The bottom line is: most of your HR policies have financial wellbeing implications. If you want to reduce financial stress and improve engagement, review your policies. Start with your expenses policy: check out this checklist for practical steps you can take: https://lnkd.in/eUY7V5Am #HRPolicies #HRCommunity #FinancialWellbeing

Seeing great financial wellbeing work recognised is good for the community, for employers and for society. 🌏 That's why we're so proud to announce our client BMJ was Highly Commended for its innovative financial wellbeing strategy at the Employee Benefits Awards 2024. Here's a couple of things BMJ did during the roll-out of Bippit that got recognised: 1) Gave employees the space to be self-reflective on their values and goals, an essential part of empowering people to improve their financial wellbeing 2) Ran a long comms ramp - they created a drumbeat around financial wellbeing and the importance long before the product comms came out, increasing buy-in and uptake Congratulations to BMJ - we're so proud to work with you! #EmployeeWellbeing #FinancialWellbeing #EmployeeBenefits
