We're talking about money more as a society! 🙌 I think we can all agree the cost-of-living crisis made it less taboo. But are we talking about money more - or talking about OUR money more? There's an important distinction. We can talk more about money generally, but still have unmet financial needs and worries. The latter comes first. Because when money topics become normalised, it's easier for people to turn the conversation to their own needs. You can talk about how to deal with debt without being vulnerable. It's harder to talk about dealing with YOUR debt without being vulnerable. Organisations, we need to get people talking about debt, before they will talk about their own debt. Stigma is broken down one step at a time. #FinancialWellbeing #FinancialWellness #HRCommunity

Back in 2023 we found a 'money stigma gap' affecting organisations like yours. 84% of the 600 UK senior HR directors we surveyed said they provide an environment encouraging employees to share money worries. But just 52% of the 5000 UK employees we surveyed agreed. This gap - between expectation and reality - can mean your organisation remains blissfully unaware how many people are suffering in silence. Do you think there's a money stigma gap in your organisation? Full link to the research in the comments. #FinancialWellbeing #Stigma #HRCommunity

What do getting divorced, having a baby, being a carer, getting married and driving through a massive pothole all have in common? They're all life events that have financial implications. And there are many, many more that affect your employees. In fact, as we go through the daily journey of life, there's very little we do that doesn't have a financial dimension. When we think of financial wellbeing support, the cost-of-living crisis has made the need more acute. But it didn't start the fire. We are all financial animals, with financial journeys we're on, and one of the most effective forms of support organisations can provide is helping employees navigate through their own financial journey. Which looks different to everyone else's. The pothole thing is personal, by the way. Cost over £100 for a new tyre. #FinancialWellbeing #EmployeeWellbeing #EmployeeSupport

What's the most valuable thing you own? 🤔 I don't mean what cost the most. I mean what's the thing most important to you. One of the hardest-hitting money lessons is that money can buy more than just stuff. It can buy freedom. It can buy security. Resilience. Peace of mind. It can buy purpose. It can buy motivation. It can buy us more time. Organising your money around your life is about knowing what is important to you, and using your money to achieve these aims. Ironically, oftentimes stuff helps us achieve the things above (like saving time - looking at you, air fryers). Sometimes it's more about investing or saving. And, in truth, sometimes it's fine to buy stuff just because.. well, we want to. Life - and money - must be about balance. #FinancialWellbeing #PersonalFinance #HRCommunity

Summer is something to celebrate ☀ But it can be pretty expensive. Peer pressure to go out after work Ramped up prices for holidays out of term time Social clubs at £1,045 per child (new research from Coram Family and Childcare) Family pressure to 'make the most' of the time seeing the kids We associate the Christmas period with putting pressure on employee finances, but let's not forget what impact that summer can have too. Signposting to the support you offer right now is a good idea to help address any financial concerns your team has as the weather hots up. Although, it's going to be raining all day here tomorrow... #FinancialWellbeing #WorkplaceWellbeing #PersonalFinance

Saving a little bit more money could help you enjoy better sleep. 😴 It could also help you relax and feel better about the future. This is according to research out of the University of Bristol, which found that putting money aside regularly - however little - had a range of health benefits. The benefit likely comes from less anxiety about money, less potential to experience problem debt and being better able to cope with financial setbacks. Interestingly, regular savers with low incomes felt as satisfied as wealthier non-savers. Around six in 10 UK adults have a 'savings habit' - could you boost your employees' financial wellbeing by encouraging them to save more regularly? Thanks to researchers Sara Davies and Jamie Evans.
