The Ethiopian Government’s Seqota Declaration Program has achieved a significant milestone, averting stunting in nearly 100,000 children in 2022 alone. These impressive results were driven by the most dramatic drop in stunting rates ever recorded worldwide. Analysis carried out by Johns Hopkins University also projects that children brought into the program in 2021 will complete an additional 7,126 years of schooling and earn an additional $48 million over their lifetimes as a result of the government’s interventions. Mayor Adanech Abiebie convened her cabinet to consolidate transformative plans in six key areas that will markedly change Addis Ababa before the end of her term. Over the course of two days, the Mayor and 67 members of her cabinet aligned on her bold vision, setting clear targets for success. Mayor Adanech shared, “To build the new face of Addis Ababa…our leadership is commencing the transformative plan preparation for six strategically identified sectors: employment, revenue, housing, mobility, public service delivery, and land development and administration. We believe these will have an overarching effect on all other sectors.” Mayor Adanech is building on her successful transformation of early childhood development to make Addis Ababa the best African city to raise a child. This includes deploying 5,000 parental coaches, creating 12,000 playgrounds, transforming 1,000 preschools, closing 120 streets for children to safely play on Sundays, and integrating early childhood development touchpoints in all health centers—efforts that are already transforming the lives of children in a holistic manner. #UrbanDevelopment #Ethiopia #Cities #Leadership
