South Africa has long been leading the charge with sustainability in the wine industry, as consumers are drawn to their authentic approach. Now more than ever, South African wines are breaking into the fine wine market, as bottle prices for these wines at upscale restaurants and wines shops have jumped by 46% compared to 2021. Enter Shannon, an artisan producer from Elgin, which has garnered high praise from critics and wine lovers alike. Their 2019 Black Label Merlot, described as "bright and expressive," and their 2020 Mount Bullet, hailed as "one of the best Merlots in the country," are particularly noteworthy. As the 2024 Olympics commence in Paris, we couldn’t help but get a little competitive in the office. And who doesn’t love a little friendly blind tasting? The rules are simple: the first to guess the grape wins. Congratulations to Adam for taking the gold for Hungary!

Let’s explore a clash of styles of the heartbreak grape! In this round we’ve put a classic Burgundy Rouge from Domaine Pavelot, against New Zealand superstar, Dicey. Both boast concentrated dark fruits on the palate, but will the differing winemaking techniques influence your preference? Decide for yourself in the Battle of the Grapes, at the link below: https://lnkd.in/d_j24-Tg

We are delighted to introduce Greta – our New Business Development Manager. From the Piedmont region in Italy, wine has very much always been a part of Greta’s life in some way. She recalls her earliest wine memory, crushing grapes by foot with her grandpa to make a rustic Barbera for the family – a momentous early introduction! Flash forward and Greta found her first wine job working with a Piedmont producer as a sales assistant. Since then, she’s firmly rooted herself in the London wine scene, where she keeps her same affection for Italian wines – although she admits her love for French wines are a close second. Please join us in welcoming Greta to the team and say hello at upcoming events.

See how the bubbles are made... Behind the scenes at any winery is always magical, but there’s something extra special about watching a Traditional Method sparkling, or in this case Cap Classique, come together over time. Graham Beck are the true champions of Cap Classique in South Africa, with Pieter Ferreira and Pierre de Klerk at the helm. Over the years the pair have fine-tuned the flavour profile and worked tirelessly to gain a deeper understanding of the factors in the vineyard and winery which influence the wines. Due to the consistent climate in the Breede River Valley in Robertson, they can produce a vintage range every year, each showing unique characteristics. A new wagyu yakiniku specialist is coming to Soho, and the Bibendum team were amongst the first to try. A hit in Taiwan and Chine, Kanpai Classic lands in London this September. To kick things off, an array of sushi was paired with the Lacourte Godbillon Mi Pentes Grand Cru, before Domaine Lafage Authentique was served with the yakiniku course: various cuts of wagyu beef cooked at the tableside grill. We couldn’t be happier to share that Andrea Altavilla has been promoted to Prestige Lead within our sales team. Andrea has been with us for over 2 years, in which time he has worked closely with our premium accounts and has built strong connections across the London On Trade. Andrea has developed a deep passion for wine since his first wine bar job in Italy and has a particular interest in the artisan winemakers within the Bibendum portfolio. While he has a strong affinity for the Italian and South American sections of our portfolio, he shares that he has a real sweet spot for Morgon by Marcel Lapierre. We wish Andrea the best of luck for his new role!

We are delighted to welcome Yann Bourigault to Bibendum as the Director of New Business Development & Key Accounts. With over 25 years of experience in the industry, Yann still recalls his first wine job as an assistant manager at a wine shop in Boston, USA – while fresh to the industry at the time, he admits his French accent may have played a hand in landing him the job. But his fascination in wine goes back to when he was a child, when his grandfather took him through his cellar to tell the stories behind each bottle. When he was old enough to drink himself, he vividly recalls a bottle of Monte Bello he had in America which cemented his passion for wine and desire to work in the industry. Say hello to Yann at our upcoming events, where he will no doubt be mingling with our winemakers to get to know the stories behind the wines in our portfolio.
