Better Cotton is helping cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment.

About us

Better Cotton is the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. Our mission: to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment. In challenging times, we are meeting the challenge head on. Through our network of field-level partners we have trained over 2.9 million farmers - from the smallest to the largest - in 26 countries on more sustainable farming practices. A quarter of the world’s cotton is now grown under the Better Cotton Standard. We have united the industry’s stakeholders behind our efforts, from ginners and spinners to brand owners, civil society organisations and governments. By 2030 our aim is to have trained 5 million farmers and doubled global production of Better Cotton. Everyone who cares about cotton and its sustainable future can now be part of something better.

The Better Cotton Conference 2024 kicks off tomorrow!   On Wednesday, we will open the event with ‘Putting People First’, the first theme of the conference, which will explore how centring farmers and farm workers is a win-win-win for farming communities, the environment, and the cotton sector at large.   Our expert speakers are action-oriented and will share ideas for social change that support people and strengthen livelihoods. One such expert is Louisa Marie Truß, Head of Partnerships at Elucid, who is joining us as a panellist in our session on Decent Work Gaps and Shared Responsibilities.   Elucid offers a digital solution that enables small-scale producers to access affordable healthcare, directly subsidised by sourcing companies and buyers.   Ahead of the conference, we spoke to Louisa about Elucid’s work, and the importance of improving healthcare access in solving decent work challenges.
