Most wine professionals describe Ireland’s wine market using words like stable, traditional, mature, open to business. Considering this and the fact that we’re talking about a top 15 wine market globally, one that benefits from the country’s recovering economy, it’s no surprise that many wine producers are trying to consolidate their brands here. Economic conditions in 2023-2024 have shaped the import trends for wine and spirits in Ireland. Inflation and economic uncertainty have led to a more cautious approach to spending among consumers, which resulted in a polarization of the market, with both value-for-money products and premium offerings performing well, while the mid-tier market has faced challenges. Wine imports reached 374 million EUR in 2023, a healthy 12% increase since the previous year, while spirits imports also saw an even larger increase, of 25%, to 170 million EUR. https://lnkd.in/duUtcVpm This Latin nation squeezed between Slavic countries remains an extremely attractive market for international wine producers because of its long affinity with the grape and its wine scene that is constantly developing. Romania is also one of Europe’s most promising export destinations, with steady and significant growth in wine imports in the last years. Romania’s wine imports reached US$142 million in 2023, a 15% increase compared to 2022 and an amazing 100% increase compared to 4 years ago, in 2019.

Located in the heart of Europe, Germany boasts a large population and high purchasing power, making it one of the world’s strongest economies and one of the largest wine-consuming countries. In 2023 Germany was the biggest wine importer in the world by volume, with 13.6 mhl, followed by the U.K. and the U.S. Despite this seemingly very positive change for Germany’s wine imports, the numbers were actually slightly smaller than the previous year across almost all wine categories except bulk wine, and the country’s ascension to first place was caused by larger drops in imports in the other top wine importers. https://lnkd.in/dKnnbkTD
