Why are ultra-processed foods (UPFs) bad for you? 🤔 Researchers across the globe are investigating many theories. UPFs have been associated with type 2 diabetes, obesity, gut dysfunction, and other chronic conditions like cancer. It's fair to say there are many unanswered questions, but one thing we do know from human clinical trials is that UPFs bypass our hunger network, causing excess calorie intake and weight gain. Did you tune into BBC 1 on Sunday to watch our CEO, Chris Edson, discuss the impact of ultra-processed foods on our health? Chris explained that while he doesn't believe junk food should be banned, something has to change to save our NHS and the nation's health. Some policy ideas could be: 1. Introducing a tax on ultra-processed foods classified by the NOVA system 2. Restricting advertising of ultra-processed foods 3. Introducing nutrition education into the school curriculum Watch the whole discussion on YouTube now 👇 https://lnkd.in/ej887JSX

Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to speak on BBC 1 about the significant role junk food plays in driving the obesity epidemic in the UK. 🍔📉 Speaking on TV for the first time was both thrilling and nerve-wracking, leaving me in an adrenaline-fueled haze for the rest of the day... 😅 Addressing the nation's relationship with ultra processed food is a big reason for why we started Second Nature all those years ago and I'm honoured I got the chance to discuss it. 🌟 https://lnkd.in/eNVJNnxw #SecondNature #BBC1 #HealthAwareness #JunkFood #ObesityEpidemic #HealthyLiving

Does Wegovy (semaglutide) cause anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions? The short answer is no, not in most people. In fact, research suggests that people living with obesity who are on semaglutide have a lower risk of experiencing adverse psychological events (like a diagnosis of anxiety) than those not taking semaglutide. Additionally, some research is starting to investigate the role of GLP-1 receptor agonists (like semaglutide) as a potential treatment for mental health conditions like depression. This isn't to say some people won't experience worsening mood, anxiety, or other psychological ill-effects from the medication. But this appears to be an exception rather than the rule.
