We started working together over 30 years ago to deliver the Channel Tunnel as members of the Transmanche Link Consortium. In 2008, we announced our formal alliance with the aim of delivering modern and innovative solutions to the UK's infrastructure needs. 83 giant concrete beams craned onto our Carol Green Underbridge👏. Installed using a 500-tonne crawler crane, the horizontal beams collectively form the deck of the bridge structure. Each beam measures 19 metres in length, with 81 beams weighing 18.1 tonnes and two beams weighing 33 tonnes – a total of 1,532.1 tonnes. On completion, the structure will span over 20 metres, 7.5 metres in height, 91 metres in width and will carry our trains over the existing West Coast Main Line near Kenilworth. We've completed four huge piers for the 150-metre-long superstructure which will take high-speed trains🚄 in and out of Birmingham 🤩. The bridge, which has been nicknamed “Bellingham Bridge” is the tallest structure in the one mile stretch of connected viaducts being built through the city’s industrial heartland. The deck is being assembled on top of the seven piers of the adjacent Curzon 1 viaduct, with around 130 individual parts lifted by crane. The entire deck and truss structure, which weighs over 4,000 tonnes, will then be slid 190 metres into place onto the Curzon 2 piers using a jacking system. The viaduct includes a unique light installation which will introduce a dynamic colour palette to the apertures of the steel truss, framing views of the city. Construction of the giant network of tunnels for HS2 has now passed the halfway point 🎉. Completed tunnels: ✅ In March 2023, TBM ‘Dorothy’ completed its second drive of the one-mile Long Itchington Wood Tunnel in Warwickshire. ✅ Earlier this year, ‘Florence’ and ‘Cecilia’ completed both drives of the 10-mile Chiltern Tunnel. On-track tunnels: - In London, four TBMs are digging the 8.4-mile Northolt Tunnel. ‘Sushila’ and ‘Caroline’ have excavated around three miles of their five-mile route. Two more are building a 3.4-mile section of this tunnel in the opposite direction. ‘Emily’ has completed 0.2 miles and ‘Anne’ has just set off. - In the Midlands, ‘Mary Ann’ is 1.3 miles into the 3.5-mile drive of the first bore of the Bromford Tunnel. ‘Elizabeth’ has just started to build the second bore. Our latest project update video is out 🎥🤩 Join stations director, Huw Edwards as he highlights the progress we've made so far in 2024, including passing the halfway point in the completion of our tunnels 🎉. In total, high-speed trains will travel through 27.4 miles of twin-bore tunnels – or almost a fifth of the 140-mile route. New video! 📣🎥 We have completed the first sections of the iconic viaduct that will bring our trains into Birmingham's new Curzon Street Station 🎉🤩. The completed 6-metre-high section of viaducts is where the structure widen from a single deck to four separate decks, spanning 65 metres at the widest point. 3,700 cubic metres of concrete have been poured to make the four individual sections of the Curzon 3 viaduct. 88 concrete parapets have been installed so far, creating the side barriers of the viaduct. A total of 176 parapets are needed for the entire Curzon 3 structure, each measuring between 1.6m and 2.9m high and weighing between four and five tonnes each. Over the weekend we moved a 1,100-tonne steel and concrete viaduct into place over two M42/M6 link roads in North Warwickshire 🎉. The 158-metre structure was moved into place in 13 hours using a specialist push-pull technique. The operation was completed 10 hours ahead of schedule during a weekend road closure, enabling the motorway link roads to be opened earlier than planned👇🎥.
