One of the ways that we drive forward technological innovation is through our academic partnerships. One of these is with Cranfield University which we have been working with on the AI Aided Tactics Engine project, aimed at delivering fearsome foes for pilots to take on during training. The team’s work will also help develop an AI assistant for pilots of the future, providing tactical advice, reducing information overload and supporting them to fly to their maximum potential. Meet Lucy, a Technical Manager for Sustainable Air Platforms. Lucy started her journey with BAE Systems on our undergraduate scheme, then joined as an Integration Engineering Graduate working within the Tempest Team. “It’s really exciting to be right at the forefront of next generation technology. I love talking about Tempest and the various roles that are involved in building it.” Lucy is also on the WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) Young Professionals Board which focuses on getting a better gender balance across the science and engineering sectors. One of the most precise ways to guide munitions is to ‘paint’ targets with a laser device, which they lock on to and follow the beam. A lot of the time this is done by military personnel, who need to get close enough to the target to see it – often at great personal risk. We’ve now shown we can do this from a small Uncrewed Air Vehicle developed by an SME, Sentinel, on to which we’ve integrated a laser target designator and connected it to our military mesh network to share target data and timing over the air. This has the potential to spare personnel this dangerous role, as well as paint targets from a greater range and whilst moving. Read more 🛦 http://baes.co/F4Oe50SIgJ2 #FIAS2024

If you can share data between military assets across air, sea, land and space, they can work as a single force and be more effective. We’ve demonstrated new systems that could help achieve this, by integrating both the command and mission-planning software, and the vehicles themselves. It also works with third-party products, so it’s an open system that others can collaborate with us on. Read more 🪖 http://baes.co/T5vJ50SFZgX #FIA2024

#BreakingNews - The three nations of the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) – UK, Italy and Japan – are unveiling a new concept model of the next generation combat aircraft at Farnborough International Airshow, which opens its doors at 10:00am tomorrow. Exhibiting at the show together for the first time, the three GCAP government partners and their lead industry partners will showcase the significant strides we are all making to progress the delivery of a truly next generation combat aircraft. Engineers from across BAE Systems Air, Leonardo and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are working together under a collaboration agreement on the design and development of the future combat aircraft using a range of innovative digital tools and techniques, including computer based modelling and virtual reality to evolve the aircraft’s design during its concepting phase.
