This month we hosted our first Bridford Innovative Biotech Forum for several of our investee companies, including Bactobio, Hudson River Biotechnology, LenioBio and Touchlight. The event was held at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge and introduced by its Master, Professor Andy Parker. The main presentation was by Andre Goerke and Kathrin Knauf of LenioBio: they discussed the lessons they learned during their work (at their previous companies, Lonza and Moderna, respectively) in bringing the Moderna mRNA Covid vaccine to market in 8 months.

We are thrilled to announce that Bactobio has received two awards under the newly established Engineering Biology Collaborative R&D program, funded by UK Research and Innovation and delivered by Innovate UK. These awards catapult us to the forefront of synthetic biology, enabling groundbreaking work in antimicrobial discovery. They represent a significant leap toward achieving our goal of leveraging cutting-edge science to address global healthcare challenges. Furthermore, they underscore our commitment to pioneering innovative solutions in healthcare and agriculture through the untapped potential of microbes. Antimicrobials are crucial in our fight against infections. However, the rise in antimicrobial-resistant infections is rendering many drugs less effective. The current pipeline of antimicrobials is not sufficient to tackle the escalating threat of #AMR. Hence, innovation plays a vital role in our collective endeavour against this challenge. Despite recent breakthroughs, there is still much work to be done.
