Marine ecosystems are vital to the health of our planet. We can restore them while also creating new bio-based products that help us tackle the climate and biodiversity crisis. In Loch Sunart on the west coast of Scotland, Atlantic Mariculture Limited's 15-hectare seaweed farm is producing high-quality natural liquid fertilisers while also encouraging more species to return to the area. Sustainable seaweed cultivation absorbs carbon, cleans seawater by filtering agricultural runoff, and provides a breeding ground for young fish 🐟 #seaweedfarming #marineecosystems #biodiversity

We were delighted to welcome Hatch Innovation Services, The Fish Site and the Scottish Seaweed Industry Association to visit our East Oronsay farm site and facility at Ardtoe. Cultivating strong relationships within the aquaculture space enables us to identify areas for innovation and collaboration, which are vital in boosting the seaweed sector as a whole. Looking forward to reading more about Hatch Innovation Services's findings in the coming months! #scottishseaweed #sustainability #seaweedfarming #scotland #aquaculture
🌊 As part of our WWF-UK 'Value of UK seaweed farming project,' Hatch Innovation Services and The Fish Site traveled to Scotland to visit the evolving macroalgae ecosystem on the West Coast! 🤝We were delighted to spend time with the Atlantic Mariculture Limited and South West Mull and Iona Development teams, which are so close to harvesting season. It was a pleasure to learn more about their success stories, wishlists, and bottlenecks. There is much to do to support the UK sector, but it is great to see effective community engagement in action, strong team dynamics, and healthy grow-outs of various cold-water species. Many thanks to everyone who took time out to host us. It was great to catch up again with colleagues and friends up North, including Rhianna Rees, Adrian Macleod, David Stewart Howitt, Charles Bavington, Mike Spain, and OCEANIUM . Stay tuned for some of our findings in the coming weeks and months! :) Hatch Innovation Services, The Fish Site, Hatch BluePeter Green, Niclas Riecken, Rob Fletcher #mariculture #macroalgae #seaweedfarming #hatchblue #wwf

As daylight hours increase, the growth rate of our cultivated kelp increases rapidly. This is a critical period for AML prior to harvest, and our Farms team will regularly monitor key environmental factors like light and water temperature, which are critical to healthy plant growth, nutrient content and biofouling, between now and May. We can then correlate this data with the analyses from samples taken throughout the farming season, allowing us to fine-tune our growing strategy and produce the highest quality kelp for our customers. We are still taking orders for harvest 2024 - if you would like more information on our home-grown Scottish kelp, please get in touch at [email protected] #aquaculture #seaweed #kelp #sustainability #kelpfarming #scotland

A very fruitful few days with one of our farm trial partners, Boughton Estate in Northamptonshire, discussing our Liquid Kelp trials on a range of crops including wheat, barley, beans, cover crops and oilseed rape. Over the course of several years, Boughton have demonstrated the extraordinary benefits of switching from an intensive to a regenerative farming regime, implementing a complex programme of crop rotation and cover crops, reduced synthetic fertiliser input, and a novel system of rotational livestock grazing throughout the farm. Benefits to date include improved yields and soil health, and a significant reduction of input costs. Many thanks to the Farms team at Boughton - we look forward to working with you to trial and develop our innovative seaweed products over the coming years. #regenerativeagriculture #sustainability #soilhealth #kelp #seaweed #farmtrials
