Art UK is an art education charity and the online home to every public art collection in the UK

About us

Art UK is an art education charity on a mission to make the art in UK public collections accessible to everyone, for enjoyment, learning and research. We enable global audiences to learn about the UK’s public art collection by digitising artworks, telling the stories behind the art, supporting teachers with online learning resources and creating exciting opportunities for public interaction with art, both online and offline. We also run an art detective agency. We play a major role supporting public art collections, by improving their accessibility and sustainability. 3,400 art collections share the Art UK platform to showcase their art to the world, in what is one of the largest ever arts partnerships put together in the UK. In the last 12 months, over 4.7 million unique users visited the site with over half of these from overseas and over 20% in the USA. No other country has such a resource.

What would you choose to wear if you were having your portrait painted? 🤔 Many sitters in the 18th century faced this very dilemma. In this portrait, Sir Charles Holte chose to be painted wearing a slashed doublet and lace collar which were reminiscent of those worn in the 1630s. 🖼️Art UK Summer Work Experience🖼️ I recently had a group induction session for my week long work experience placement with Art UK. The programme aims to offer young people underrepresented in the arts insight into various departments via project briefs that reflect their everyday work. These include Marketing and Comms, Learning, Commercial, Social Media Content, Engagement, Development, and Copyright and Licensing. They also provide one day physically working within a local collection organised by themselves, as well as an in-depth careers session offering advice and reflection with their people and culture team. The programme seems like a wonderful opportunity and a great start at breaking down access and exclusionary barriers within such a difficult sector. Such varied insight into different career paths would not be possible for people like myself, and many others, if not for companies like Art UK daring to make proactive changes. Thank you Lauren Colley for such a lovely session, I can’t wait to work with you all for the week and get involved with the alumni community.
