Updates

  • Brompton Bikes is a great British success story. From producing just under 7,000 bikes a year made by 31 employees at the turn of the Millennium, in 2022 the one millionth “Brommie” rolled out of the Greenford factory, that has been home to their manufacturing since 2015 with a workforce of around 800 and capacity far greater than the original sites, first in Kew in the Eighties and then under railway arches in Brentford. In more than 20 years of service to Brompton, especially since becoming CEO in 2008, Will Butler Adams OBE and his mix of engineering and management excellence has given wings to Andrew Richie’s invention now available in over 40 countries, such as America, at “Brompton Junction” in Greenwich Village, NYC. Will kindly joined Rag members at a table for lunch to share the story behind this and offered vivid insight into how Brompton has expanded. A good example is when Brompton had a problem with sourcing UK titanium? Ultimately, for requisite quality needed, Brompton went into a partnership with a friend of Will’s and now makes some of the best in the UK for general domestic use and export. Necessity’s maternal powers again. This is the latest in the Rag salon lunch series where club members can enjoy a first-hand account of someone’s achievements at a table and conversation that ensures a true understanding of what is behind an individual and his or her achievements. Please keep and eye out for e-mails and on the website for details of whom the club is hosting.
