It's a classic recruitment conundrum: needing experience to get a job, but needing a job to get experience. If you’re struggling to land your first engineering job, perhaps consider the following... ✔ Gaining experience through internships, volunteering, or freelance projects - websites like Upwork can be a goldmine for this. ✔ Loading up on online courses and certifications - platforms such as Coursera and Udemy offer courses that will bump up your CV, but it's essential that they're relevant to your field. ✔ Trying out some personal projects - why not build something? A robot, an app, a rocket... just make sure you document your projects and showcase them in a portfolio. ✔ Give networking a go - attend industry events, join professional organisations, and don't be shy! Hand out those business cards like they're tissues at a Euro's final (still too soon?) Think of it as a necessary detour; the extra experience can make you more attractive to future employers. It might not be glamorous, but it's like putting in the groundwork before you get to the main act. Plus, every bit of experience counts and can help you build a solid portfolio and network.

Ah, the first job – where dreams meet reality, often with a thud. New engineers, whichever industry they find themselves in, face several common challenges: 💥 Learning the Ropes: University theory meets the practical world. Prepare by brushing up on real-world applications of your studies. Hint: It’s not just about passing exams anymore. 💥 Time Management: Juggling multiple projects and deadlines. Pro tip: Calendars and to-do lists are your new best friends. That, and coffee. Lots of coffee. 💥 Office Politics: Navigating the social maze of the workplace. Think of it as a game of chess, but with more passive-aggressive emails. 💥 Technical Skills Gap: You might be a CAD wizard, but can you wield a spanner without causing a small explosion? Get hands-on practice wherever you can. 💥 Communication: Explaining complex ideas without sounding like you swallowed a textbook. Practice clear, concise communication. And remember, not everyone speaks Engineer. 💥 Expectations vs. Reality: Saving the world one widget at a time might take a bit longer than you thought. Stay patient and keep learning. So basically, our advice to you is this - prepare yourself by seeking internships, networking, and staying curious. And always remember, even the best engineers started off thinking a torque wrench was a medieval torture device.

Just a week ago, we had the pleasure of attending the Farnborough Airshow 2024 (FIA24), the world's largest aviation expo and airshow, which comes to the UK every 2 years. This time, the Arden White team was represented by James Townsend FIRP DipRP, Joe Woods, and Matthew Smyth The day was a whirlwind of networking as we connected with current and prospective clients and contacts. We were thoroughly impressed by the sheer scale of the event this year, particularly the advancements in carbon-neutral technologies, particularly Evolito Ltd, Lilium and Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd A standout highlight was the “Pioneers of Tomorrow” event, designed to inspire students and children about careers in the aviation industry which is much needed to address the significant skills shortage affecting our industry. We’d like to thank our friends at Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters for their hospitality and we had such a fantastic time that we are already eagerly anticipating the next instalment of the event, which will be held in Paris in 2025. Until then, we'll be brushing up on our French…. #FIA24 #FIA2024 #Farnboroughinternationalairshow #Pioneersoftomorrow #ardenwhite
