👑 The King’s Speech yesterday was content heavy as expected, with economic growth at the heart of the agenda, intending to create wealth in every corner of the UK. Our industry is at the heart of economic recovery and public investment in critical sectors, core to APSCo OutSource members, such as AI and technology, life sciences and healthcare and green energy should help boost activity. Tania Bowers, Global Public Policy Director at APSCo Global, notes that the announcement confirms key policy promises from Keir Starmer’s manifesto, emphasising labour market and recruitment sector regulation. We welcome the establishment of Skills England and the Growth and Skills Levy. The Employment Rights Bill and the launch of the Fair Work Agency are critical, and APSCo will participate in consultations to ensure a fair impact on the staffing sector. 📢 APSCo Responds to Labour's Election Landslide! Recruiters are waking up (or went to bed) to the news of a Labour landslide victory in the hashtag #UKGeneralElection. Tania Bowers, Global Public Policy Director at APSCo, congratulates the new Labour Government on their victory and emphasises the importance of a flexible labour market for growth. Details of Sir Keir Starmer's new cabinet will be announced quickly today, and he must act to make his mark on the slightly improving economic landscape. Some key pointers for recruiters: - Labour has its mandate for the introduction of the Employment Rights Bill in the first 100 days. This will create new rights for workers and employees including day one rights, improved statutory sick pay and a ban on exploitative zero contract hours. - Labour will be focusing efforts on reducing NHS waiting lists and increasing appointment numbers - which they will struggle to do without agency workers. - Labour will be setting up Skills England and acting quickly to establish its growth and skills levy. Yesterday, we hosted our annual CSR day, kindly sponsored by Nétive VMS. Danny Heath founder of YourGamePlan provided an overview of their work, how they support young people, and how we can positively impact both students and employers. We discussed the importance of work experience and the benefits to everyone. We explored ways to make work experience less conventional and accessible to all, enabling students to acquire valuable skills, make choices and develop knowledge for a successful career. Our members brought their A game to the meeting with energy and enthusiasm they worked together in groups to brainstorm and outline a work experience program. Combining their ideas and knowledge, they successfully compiled a wealth of information to build a workable blueprint. A fantastic day with a clear plan of action and further support for YourGamePlan’s mission.
