Superyachts are routinely protected by security systems including long-range acoustic devices (LRAD), underwater sonar detection systems, and exterior lockdown systems, as well as being protected from cyber threats through password management and access control systems. Although piracy incidents (in the shipping and yachting industry) have reportedly decreased in 2024, there is still the need to remain vigilant and prepared. Superyachts. Vessels that are designed to provide the ultimate in luxury. These vessels can carry significant assets (possessions and people) and can be the target of criminals, when moored shoreside or at sea. Superyacht security is a complex and multi-faceted issue. It is essential to have a comprehensive security plan in place that includes both physical and cyber security measures, emergency procedures, personal protection measures, port security and intelligence gathering. A yacht owner may decide their vessel needs a dedicated room to which they can retreat in the event of an attack. This can either be a specifically designed safe room, or a particular room that has high use. The ships wheelhouse would be a sensible choice for armouring as the vessels controls and comms will play a vital role in evading any hostile situation. The chosen room for armouring can have high levels of protection without the armour being visible. ASL GRP design and integrate protective armour systems that are installed within the yachts walls, typically mounted between the steel or aluminium outer skin and the inner finish. The yachts style need not be compromised. Today’s commute… a little further south than usual.

Its that time again... Did you know that the Roma Number 1 ballistic clay blocks used for NIJ body armor testing have a fixed life? 1 year only (and only 6 months for UK Home Office police armour testing). This is ostensibly due to loss of oils and drying of the clay but makes no allowance for how much or little the block as been shot (though at PBL we keep a close measure of how many shots go into each tray). We are just hoping that the next level 3 "R&D" plate that goes on this brand new block is a bit better than what happened to our last new block! Plastillina is at best, an imperfect measure of BFS but its what we have got and it's the standard we all work to.
