We're highlighting to drivers that a popular car insurance 'hack' known as #Fronting - which is often seen as an innocent way to make car insurance cheaper - is actually #InsuranceFraud and has massive consequences! Shelley Comb, Intelligence & Investigations Manager at the IFB, said: “Fronting on car insurance is surprisingly common and because many people don’t realise it’s illegal, countless young people and their parents are implicating themselves in insurance fraud and uninsured driving, which has devastating consequences. “This is why as part of our Fraud Cons campaign we’re urging the public to avoid fronting. You should only be a named driver if you’re not the main user of the vehicle. If you’re unsure who the policyholder should be, then we recommend you speak to your insurer for advice first.” Find out how fronting on car insurance works and our tips to legitimately reduce the cost of car cover at https://ow.ly/xgJo50SXntS

Can you spot the red flags that are often used by #GhostBroker on social media? The IFB has created some fake social media posts to show what to look out for https://lnkd.in/eAkxdwYr #GhostBroking #awareness

As part of our #GhostBroking #awareness campaign, we have created fake posts that imitate what a #GhostBroker may publish. By visually demonstrating the signs in addition to highlighting the red flags that each post displays, we hope that it will prompt social media users to think twice before interacting with a potential Ghost Broker. See if you can spot the signs. . . . Did you spot them all? Red flags include: • Being offered unrealistically cheap insurance, up front with few questions asked • Being given a fixed cost before you’ve applied • The seller only wants to communicate via social media or an encrypted messaging app (e.g. Whatsapp or Snapchat) • They may behave in an unprofessional manner and their adverts will often look sloppy (think typos, poor editing, watermarked images, or saying they are ‘legit’) • Asking you to pay after the insurance is in place, requesting crypto currencies or other third-party payment tools be used • The seller doesn't have a legitimate website, UK landline number or address.

Only one in ten UK adults has heard about #GhostBroking, does this surprise you? Today, together with the wider insurance industry, we're launching a campaign to raise awareness of Ghost Broking and help the public protect themselves against it. Our recent YouGov survey revealed that one in five young adults (under the age of 24) have searched for insurance deals on social media. This is concerning as the industry has seen a considerable year-on-year increase of Ghost Broking cases that started on #SocialMedia and determined this was the fastest growing space for this type of #InsuranceFraud. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g6CPqref City of London Police’s Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department, Association of British Insurers, Ageas UK, Allianz Insurance Aviva, Direct Line Group, Hastings Direct, Markerstudy Group, and Crimestoppers Trust – together we stand against fraud. #GhostBroker

🚨 Important Alert for Van Drivers 🚨 Here at Ageas, we have identified a worrying new trend of "crash for cash" scams involving vans and mopeds. This scam, which was first reported last summer in London, is now spreading to urban areas across the UK. The scam involves moped-riders deliberately maneuvering their vehicles into the path of reversing vans to induce an impact and then claim for damage and injuries. Katie Davies, Director of Underwriting Services and Fraud at Ageas, warns drivers to be aware of the tell-tale signs of these faked accidents to avoid falling victim to this scam. The tell-tale signs of a fake accident, often associated with “crash for cash” scams, can include: 1. Overreaction to the Accident: The other driver might appear overly upset or angry, and insist on calling the police or an ambulance, even for a minor collision. 2. Immediate Claim of Injury: The scammer may immediately claim they have been seriously injured, even if the accident was minor. 3. Witnesses Appear Quickly: Witnesses might appear very quickly and corroborate the scammer’s version of events. These could be part of the scam. 4. Inconsistent Damage: The damage to the scammer’s vehicle might appear inconsistent with the nature of the crash. 5. Insistence on Specific Service Providers: The scammer might insist on using a specific recovery service, repair centre, doctor, or legal firm. 6. Rapid Insurance Claim: The scammer might quickly file an insurance claim, often demanding immediate payment for vehicle repairs and medical expenses. Remember, if you suspect you’ve been targeted in a “crash for cash” scam, it’s important to report it to the police and your insurance company as soon as possible. Stay safe and stay vigilant. Don't forget to click the notification bell at the top right of our page to ensure you never miss out on our future posts and content. 🔔 #CrashForCash #InsuranceScam #FightingFraud
