“I’ve worked with so many people and have made some wonderful friends that I’ll have for the rest of my life!” 💜 This week, we spoke to Rachel, Assistant Manager at the Age UK shop in Tamworth, who has been working there for 22 years. Rachel’s volunteering work began shortly after having children, as she sought confidence to re-enter the workplace. "Somebody suggested volunteering as a means of gaining a bit of confidence to go back into the workplace – but I loved volunteering here so much that I stayed!" Aware of the difference her work has made, Rachel continues as the longest serving staff member at the store, as she announces she has no plans to leave any time soon. “I’ve been here so long that I want to have my ashes scattered here!” Read the full interview and learn more about the difference Age UK charity shops make here: https://bit.ly/3W5Zenl

The Covid-19 pandemic affected every single person in the UK and had an especially big impact on older people. By sharing our stories, we can help inform the Inquiry’s investigations and give you the chance to share what you think could be learned, what could have been done better, or differently, or if something was done well. Because it is vital that older people can share their stories, we’ve partnered with @uk-covid-19-inquiry to set up a dedicated phone line for older people. Please share this option with loved ones who aren’t online: 020 3908 3004 (Mon-Fri 10-4) Share your story: everystorymatters.co.uk #EveryStoryMatters
