Excited to Start My Journey as a Legal Intern at Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) :
Today marks my first day as a Legal Intern at the Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) and I am incredibly proud to begin my legal journey in the UK with such an inspiring organization.
I also just completed my certification in Safeguarding Everyone, a vital course that emphasizes the protection of vulnerable children and adults from abuse and exploitation. It’s a crucial step in ensuring a safer, more just society, and I’m eager to apply this knowledge in my work.
During my first day, I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Nooralhaq Nasimi MBE, the founder of ACAA. His story is truly moving: In 1999, Dr. Nasimi and his family fled Afghanistan in a refrigerated container, escaping the Taliban. After a perilous nine-month journey across Europe, they finally arrived in the UK, where they were met with sanctuary and support. Born in Ghorband, Afghanistan, Dr. Nasimi grew up amidst political turmoil, serving in the Afghanistan Army before obtaining a PhD in law in Ukraine. His journey from war to becoming a refugee and, ultimately, a beacon of hope for others inspired him to establish ACAA in 2000 to help Afghan refugees integrate into UK society. In recognition of his tireless efforts, Dr. Nasimi was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for his incredible work supporting refugees and empowering communities.
The ACAA is committed to empowering refugees and migrants from over 35 countries by providing support, skills, and knowledge to help them thrive in the UK. Their services include English language classes, employment workshops, youth and family support services, and outreach to individuals in detention. The organization also provides advice and legal aid through their advice clinics.
ACAA’s impact extends beyond the UK. They are working to reopen citizens advice centres in Afghanistan to offer free, impartial legal advice and support on issues like education, employment, and domestic violence.
Over the last 24 years, ACAA has grown from a small organization to one that now supports over 13,000 refugees annually to improve the quality of life for those starting new lives in the UK.
I’m truly honored to be part of ACAA’s mission and look forward to contributing and learning through this opportunity! 🌟
