About us
aerosensor was founded by former F1 aerodynamicist Dr. Barney Garrood PhD, to create a portable aero performance optimisation system for road, track and time-trial cyclists. The result of 4 years of research and development, and over 180 design iterations, aerosensor is a completely new aerodynamic probe design offering unprecedented accuracy in real world drag measurement. Over the course of development two other products have been developed to measure body position and laptime. The the aerosensor cycling system allows simultaneous measurement of body position and aerodynamic drag, accurately synchronising that to track or road position. This offers an unprecedented level of detail and accuracy in aerodynamic optimisation at an affordable price. Together our devices offer a complete portable aero test system, wirelessly reporting performance data in real-time to the cyclist.

In addition to our rider edge overlays, wind tunnel customers now have access to Aerobody, an optical sensor produced by aerosensor which measures the position of a rider’s head and chest in relation to the stem or top tube of the bike. The device has now been integrated into the wind tunnel software, with an initial measurement taken during the tare. The position of the rider’s head and chest can then be monitored in real time, via a visual display, by both the athlete and wind tunnel operator in order to ensure position is maintained. #windtunnel #windtunneltesting #repeatability #aerotesting #timetrial #cycling #cyclingtech #aerosensor

This week has seen plenty of head-turning aerodynamic helmets in the world of cycling. Our technical partner Lidl-Trek took it a step further, harnessing the power of Aerosensor's real-time drag measurement device during their reconnaissance ride prior to the TT, adding precision wind data across every twist and turn of the 10km course to their strategic arsenal. This helped propel Jonathan Milan to a brilliant 3rd place in the individual time trial, and meant he sat 1st in the general classification after stage 4, holding the coveted Maglia Azzurra jersey. Proud to announce that we’ve partnered up with Silverstone Sports Engineering Hub by implementing Aerobody, our body position sensor, into their world-leading aerodynamic testing setup. With a resolution of 1mm, aerobody alerts you when you leave your chosen aero position, allowing you to keep track of body position changes not only in the wind tunnel, but on the track and road via a Garmin bike computer.
