Aed Energy is lowering the cost of #decarbonised #power and #heat. The team is building a low-cost thermal #battery to deliver long-duration storage dispatchable as #electricity and heat. Come and see them pitch to investors next Thursday, 19 September, at The Greenhouse Demo Day! They'll join ten other climate innovators on the historic stage of The Royal Institution. It's a fantastic opportunity to meet green startups, network with Imperial College London's innovation community, and hear expert talks on the evolving geopolitical landscape and its potential impact on climate innovators. ➡ Register for Demo Day: https://lnkd.in/euv3SRgZ ⚡ Learn more about Aed Energy: https://aed.energy/ The Greenhouse programme is supported by the Greater London Authority via the Mayor of London; HSBC UK #hsbcuk, through the bank’s global Climate Solutions Partnership; and the Inflexion Foundation. We're excited to announce that Aed Energy has been selected among twenty projects aiming to advance reliable, cost-effective renewable energy-based alternatives to fossil-fueled generators in the Philippines and Nigeria, as part of the first phase of the Zero Emission Generators (ZE-Gen) Technology Accelerator. ZE-Gen is a collaborative initiative led by The Carbon Trust and Innovate UK, with support from the IKEA Foundation and UK aid through the UK Government’s Ayrton Fund. Launched at COP27 with an initial commitment of over £19 million and an ambition to scale to £100 million, ZE-Gen is designed to tackle barriers, accelerate innovation and fund activities to build a thriving, competitive market for renewable alternatives to fossil-fuelled generators. Of the estimated 25 million fossil-fueled generators used worldwide, three million are in Nigeria and one million in the Philippines, costing billions annually in expensive fossil fuel consumption. In Nigeria alone, daily diesel consumption averages 14 million litres due to unreliable on-grid power, with Nigerians spending over N1 trillion (2.2 billion USD) in Q2 2023 alone, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NMDPRA). Despite their critical function, the unsubsidised cost of electricity from diesel generators can exceed $400 per megawatt hour (MWh), placing significant economic strain on dependent regions. Our project aims to demonstrate a low-cost, clean, and reliable alternative: modular energy storage technology paired with intermittent renewable energy in a deployable configuration. At commercial scale, Aed Energy’s transformative solid-state engine delivers up to 100 hours of stored energy using very low-cost, abundant materials, with the ultimate goal of achieving an affordable roundtrip levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) under $100 per MWh. We’re looking forward to working with our partners in Nigeria and advancing our mission to accelerate access to affordable, clean energy worldwide. @Zero Emission Generators @Ayrton Fund @Transforming Energy Access @IKEA Foundation @The Carbon Trust @Innovate UK

What innovative startup would you create if energy costs were nearly free? 🌞 The rapid expansion of solar energy is reshaping industries globally with no signs of slowing down. Forecasts consistently underestimate its potential. Don't believe solar energy works at night? As The Economist states battery prices have plummeted by 90%, and there are emerging long-lasting energy solutions such as Aed Energy in our portfolio. Unlike traditional energy sources reliant on finite resources like oil, solar power leverages abundant materials like silicon-rich sand and human creativity for solar cell production. So, at some point this century founders will think about businesses based on nearly free energy. #SolarEnergy #RenewableFuture #CleanTech #climatetech #startups 💡🔋🌍

As detailed in the The Financial Times, the G7 countries are setting ambitious goals to increase global electricity storage capacity by 6.5x, aiming to reach 1,500 GW by 2030. This monumental increase, up from 230 GW in 2022, underscores the critical role of energy storage in integrating renewable sources like solar and wind into our energy grids. #EnergyStorage #RenewableEnergy #G7Summit #Sustainability #Innovation https://lnkd.in/gCe9PqRU
