We're giving a huge thank you to Waitrose & Partners for inviting children, young people and volunteers from Action for Children to their Cookery School last week. The group were invited from our London Independent Visitors service, which matches volunteers (Independent Visitors) with a young person in care. They support them in their interests, mentor them to make their own decisions and be a positive influence. Are you interested in volunteering for the service? We want to introduce you to Charlie! He’s a Residential Worker at Sycamore House in Shrewsbury. We asked him a few questions about his role and the impact he has on young people’s lives... What’s your favourite part of the job? "The activities and interactions we get to have with the children, both in-house and on any outings." ️What’s your career highlight at Action for Children? "This is a tough one, there’s so many! I’d say the highlight has been working for such a wonderful charity. But one moment stands out to me... One of the young people we work with used to be hoisted and almost entirely dependent on staff for personal care. Four years on and he can walk with support, and manoeuvre himself around the home on his own. He’s able to get himself in and out of the shower, dressed almost entirely independently. His vocabulary has also increased massively over time and he’s expanded his knowledge of signs and symbols." What do you get up to in your free time? "I’m quite a creative and active person, so I like to write songs, play guitar and piano - occasionally I go busking! I read and do creative writing, spend time with friends/family playing board games or go for local walks or excursions in nature." #StaffSpotlight #ActionForChildren

Our brand-new partnership with our friends at Nationwide Building Society is in full swing. And we wanted to share some exciting updates... We’re launching two vital services to support tens of thousands of vulnerable children, young people and families living in financial hardship: 👉 The Family Fund will give families immediate support with essentials like food, bills, clothing and equipment for their homes. 👉 Family Clubs will provide welcoming, safe spaces in local communities where families can come to eat, get warm, feel comfortable and be supported with whatever they’re facing. Together, Action for Children and Nationwide will help tackle child poverty and give more children a safe and happy childhood. #NationwideFairerFutures

We're giving a HUGE thank you to our friends at Chartered Institute of Housing... “As part of my Chartered Institute of Housing Presidential Charity Campaign, myself, a group of friends and other housing professionals set out to climb Scafell Pike, England’s highest Mountain, set in the beautiful Lake District National Park." - Jill Murray, President of the Chartered Institute of Housing. The group of 25, led by four mountain leaders, climbed in support of Action for Children. They raised an incredible £12,509 (and counting) in the process, smashing their target of £7,000. "The fundraising challenge exceeded all of our expectations and we are delighted with the phenomenal amount of money raised by everyone, almost doubling my fundraising target for the event. And most importantly, enabling Action for Children to make a huge impact on the lives of vulnerable children, young people and families across the UK." Drop a ❤️ below and join us in congratulating colleagues from the Chartered Institute of Housing!
