How can we become more productive and tech-enabled as an industry? 📈   As some of you may know two weeks ago, I started my new role as CEO of Mace Construct. I took on the reins from Gareth Lewis, who has worked for Mace for over 27 years helping to establish Mace Construct as the leading contractor it is today. Our 2023 Annual Report, which we published yesterday shows the strong foundations I have to build on, with us achieving our highest revenue in five years in 2023.   I look forward to working with Mark Reynolds and Jason Millett as we work together to become the world’s leading programme and project delivery consultant and construction expert.   In my first few weeks, I am keen to get out of our head office in Moorgate, to as many Mace sites as possible– it's here where we build our product, and make ambitions come alive. So far, I have visited over 15 sites including Heathrow, 40 Leadenhall, 100 Fetter Lane, the Microsoft LON-01-02 data centre and Salisbury Square. Thanks to all the teams that have hosted me so far.   Some of my personal highlights so far have been seeing the complexities of building out a massive basement and temporary works at Salisbury Square, the close-to-completed frame and ongoing envelope we are building at Panorama St Pauls, seeing 101 Moorgate and 100 Fetter Lane edge every nearer to completion, the many different and varied projects we are delivering for our longest serving client at Heathrow and the awe-inspiring reception with its cast iron ‘flutes’ at 40 Leadenhall (see photos below) and that’s just to name a few!   Aside from project visits, I was fortunate to be at the @Construction News Awards last week to see our Construct engine acknowledged once more as Major Contractor of the Year for the fifth year in a row – this is a testament to the hard work of all the teams our there winning and delivering fantastic projects. Our industry has so much to be proud of – there are not many other sectors where you can point to something and say, ‘I helped build that’. But, whilst it is a trait I hold dearly, I believe our construction is far too humble. We do breathtaking things every day, but we don’t shout about it as much as we should. However, I also believe that, as an industry, there are areas we can do things better, safer and more efficiently. That is why on each of my visits, I am asking each of the project teams how we can do things more productively and also how we can become more tech-enabled.   I’d be interested to hear from you; how do you think we can transform our industry to become safer, more productive, and digitally driven? What should we do more of? What should we stop doing? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below 👇

Drawing inspiration from the intricate shapes of ironmongery and honouring our bell-making history, the façade adds a touch of heritage to our design while addressing practical needs. Attracting ample sunlight, our buildings require significant cooling. That's why we've carefully crafted the façade to minimise energy consumption, incorporating thoughtful shading on the sunny side. Embracing heritage to forge a sustainable path forward. #architecture #40leadenhall #property 📸 James Reid

Celebrating 10 years of NLA's London tall buildings survey. We're thrilled to feature in the special 10th-anniversary edition, marking London’s evolving skyline. "Inspired by the classic North American skyscrapers of the early 20th century. The rational yet striking 34-storey tower design makes a confident statement on the skyline and integrates the restored Grade II-listed 19–21 Billiter Street." "The building consists of several blocks which step down from the City cluster towards the river, and step back to respect views along Fleet Street and the ceremonial route to St Paul’s."
