I'm excited to share a project that I’m really proud of, something I’ve been eager to showcase! Many thanks to 180 Studios for generously letting us use the studio and equipment. Hold On is a student project brought to life by Sophie Bramley from Guildhall School of Music & Drama . The aim was to create a visual stimulus that represented her interpretation of a song created by Barbarella and Dave Randall. Video link: https://lnkd.in/ekzD3xt2 The entire production was shot over 2 days at 180 Studios on a 5x5 meter XR stage. We had very limited budget and a small crew, thanks to the pre production planning we managed to get 26 shots and tech setup within 2 days at the studio. Alongside an incredibly talented crew we had the studios pioneering technology utilising the Disguise ecosystem and testing out new tracking technology from retracker. Having the studios 1.2 pitch panels enabled us to use more of the stage for handheld closeups of talent allowing for more creative control from the DOP in a quick turnaround production. The free outdoor exhibition Frieze Sculpture runs from 18 September to 27 October 2024, showcasing the works of 22 international artists sited throughout the English Gardens in The Regent’s Park⁠. Curated by Fatoş Üstek, this year’s programme embraces an expanded notion of sculpture, featuring new works by Yoshitomo Nara, Leonora Carrington, Theaster Gates, Zanele Muholi and more — with an extensive public programme of live activations and curator-led tours, as well as collaborations across London⁠. The unreleased track “Mulatto Symphony,” performed by Hendrix Harris, made its debut live at The Vinyl Factory: Reverb exhibition at 180 Studios, curated by Reference Point. Last Tuesday evening, the multi-faceted musician Hendrix Harris brought two dynamic sets and a mesmerising jam session to Theaster Gates stage, featuring some of London's most exciting musicians: Jay Phelps, Daniel Winshall, Tom Ford, Vincent de Jesus, Jerome Johnson, Callum Connell, Lou Berry and Max Dindinaud. The Vinyl Factory and 180 Studios are proud to present live performances by some of the UK's most talented and vibrant musicians on our live stage in the exhibition, designed by Theaster Gates. These live recordings will be pressed onto vinyl and available for purchase from 180 and VF online. 🎵 During a recent trip to London, I visited The Vinyl Factory at 180 Studios for the 'REVERB' exhibition. Among the many installations exploring the magic of collaboration between musicians and the worlds of art and music, I was particularly excited to experience one, especially after my recent work on the Denon x OJAS. The collaboration celebrated the best of Japanese audio culture and handcrafted products like the legendary DL-103R. ➡️ Watch the official Denon x OJAS collaboration video: https://lnkd.in/eUGBzRNb 😉 Devon Turnbull’s 'Hi-Fi Listening Room Dream No.1’ masterfully combines meditative close listening with sound expertise. This high-performance, handmade sound system—complete with brutalist speakers, a turntable, amplifiers, and meditation seats—provides a site-specific acoustic experience dedicated to the pure act of listening. With an evolving program of unheard music, including exclusive test pressings and studio outtakes, this space uniquely highlights the profound impact of sound on society, emotion, and history. Other installations pictured include: 🎶 Virgil Abloh's '12-inch Voices' features a giant pink boombox wrapped in spiky soundproofing foam panels. It's a bright pink celebration of Chicago’s DJ culture and architecture, combining a room-filling sculpture and speaker. 📀 Carsten Nicolai's 'Bausatz Noto' lets visitors get creative with four Technics SL-1210 turntables integrated into a table. Each turntable plays specially produced coloured vinyl records with endless grooves, allowing you to layer sound loops and create new combinations. ❄️ 'Vigil 2.0' by Caterina Barbieri and Ruben Spini merges musical, visual, and sculptural elements. To celebrate the photographer's relaunch of the magazine, the event featured a series of panel talks, workshops, performances, and film screening focused on art, identity, and industry. On the site, Campbell sits down with writer, curator and art historian Alayo Akinkugbe to discuss the publication, LGBTQ rights in Ghana and why his motto is ‘here to educate, not irritate’⁠.⁠ DAZED Magazine and 180 Studios have collaborated to unveil a distinctive self-contained space on the first basement level, complete with a private, customisable entrance on Surrey Street.
