📎Long article- Weekend read recom; Attempted a critical interpretation and explanation of the foundational aspects of the Continental AU- AI Strategy in relation to what these mean for African people- essentially, I probe into the role of the public in meaningfully contributing to the AI policymaking discourse in Africa and at the same time call attention to a reimagining of the public value that AI policymaking is advancing for Africans . Across the essay, issues such as the continent’s vision as captured in the Strategy are questioned- We ask questions like what do African people hope AI brings forth for them, development for whom and of what kind as well as an inquiry into what Africa sees as its chief contribution to the global AI landscape. The Strategy’s development including the evidence that informed assertions made there in, the public’s involvement as well as the issue of dependence on foreign players are also examined in depth.
