Ukrainian Energy Sector conference at KIEF TALKS. Participants present: UA government officials, energy sector SOEs and private business including Volodymyr Kudrytskyi ,Ihor Tynnyi and others. Two main conclusions I drew. First: the winter will be rough. Significantly rougher compared the the previous one. russians destroyed almost half of Ukraine's power generation capacity. Large power generating units proved to be relatively easy targets. It is not possible now and will hardly be possible in the nearest future to defend all or most of large power generating units with Patriots or SAMP/Ts. Restoring the lost capacities takes time and huge money. There is no clear understanding what level of power generation energy sector ( SOEs and private) will manage to restore / keep operational by this winter and on. Yes, we can see very robust actions by UA government and our allies to improve the resilience of the energy sector. Nevertheless, the outcome of this battle is far from clear. Second: probably the best way to drastically boost Ukraine's energy resilience is to agressively develop decentralized power generation. Including renewables. Instead of dozens of large units , we need thousands of small ones. Mostly privately funded and owned. With reliable investment return scenarios and transparant rules of the game. Yes , private energy sector operators ( renewable ones , first of all) have a pretty long list of complaints to the government's handling of the market. They say the playground is not friendly and predictable enough. But , at least for the period of active warfare, decentralized power generation seems much better option for Ukraine, taking into account the current interception rate of UA forces: 95 % of drone interception and around 70 % of misiles. The UA government has already announced a number of steps to boost private investments in small energy generation. Hopefully, the all players will be moving fast.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Indian diversified group of companies Enso Group have agreed on a partnership for joint investments in projects to develop infrastructure for shipbuilding in Russia and India with a total investment volume of up to 20 billion rubles. The corresponding announcement took place on the eve of the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi to the Russian Federation. “Shipbuilding is one of the most high-tech industries, the development of which is one of the key government priorities in both Russia and India. Expanding our own shipbuilding base and competencies, modernizing infrastructure, digitalizing production, strengthening the human resources potential of the two countries require significant investments,” — said RDIF General Director Kirill Dmitriev. Investments by RDIF and Enso Group in the construction of shipyards and the expansion of existing shipbuilding capacities are aimed at meeting the growing demand of companies for the transportation of various goods by water transport and reducing dependence on foreign carriers. https://lnkd.in/g4mj-yDE

russian Think Tank sees decline in Russian economy. Russian economy faces challenges where solutions are needed "here and now" according to think tank. russia's economy is challenged on several points. This appears from a report from a russian think tank. The report points to several problems in the russian economy. Among other things, the report concludes that russia's industrial production is stagnating and that the country's exports of goods continue to shrink. According to Reuters, the think tank - called the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-Term Forecasting - is close to the Russian government. The report points to long-term problems for the russian economy and at the same time states that solutions are needed 'here and now'. The think tank also warns that there is a shortage of both raw materials and components. Despite russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, which has been going on for over two years, the country's economic performance last year exceeded the expectations of many analysts. But in January and February, seasonally adjusted consumer activity fell by 0.2 percentage points, according to the think tank's data. In addition, investment activity fell for the fourth consecutive month in February. Economically, russia - with President Vladimir Putin at the helm - has been challenged for the past two years by foreign sanctions as a result of the invasion of Ukraine. Many Western companies have also withdrawn from the Russian market. As a result of Western sanctions, russia has imposed import restrictions, but this has helped create internal problems in russia. There was so much going on during yesterday's Inauguration Ceremony of the 11th Edition of Fundacja Liderek Biznesu Mentoring Program. 💎The discussion on the "Professions of the Future" left me with belief that AI will not replace leaders, but it can certainly strengthen them. Leaders' technological "literacy" (in Polish: alfabetyzm technologiczny) will be necessary to be present on the market and succeed. 💎In turn, after the session describing "How to take care of yourself wisely and consciously build the quality of your life", I got a new perspective on the concept of "responsibility", which we understand as a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone. But if we look at this word from the perspective of “Response-Ability", it changes its definition to having the ability to respond to everything that occurs in our life. I dug deeper into that and found this on Response-Ability (via TABATHA DAVIS): “It shows that no matter how much you try to fit in with society, if it is not in your ability then you will never have a response (no responsibility). It shows when you apply for a job in which you have no ability… then you will not have a response (no responsibility). It shows when you are in over your head, dealing with a situation in which you do not have the ability to overcome… you do not have a response (no responsibility).” Such an approach indeed helps "responsibility" not to be so much of a burden to us😊. Yesterday, I sat beside our gas traders when panic almost hit the room. Reuters broke the news, saying: "(Reuters) - Ukraine has agreed to transit Azerbaijani gas to Europe as a temporary measure after it ends a transit deal with Russia, even though it expects some Russian gas will be included in the volumes, the Ukrainska Pravda news outlet said on Thursday." TTF front-month gas prices dropped or rather gapped by up to 12%, and liquidity immediately vanished from the market. It was truly important news. The gas market had long feared that gas transiting through Ukraine would halt at the end of December, in the middle of the peak winter demand season. However, now the picture changed. Gas would continue to flow. Importantly, this happened in a situation where speculative accounts were extremely net-long on gas, which intensified the sell-off. There was just one problem: the story wasn’t true. As brilliantly explained below, it was due to a poor translation by Reuters from a Ukrainian newspaper. Russia does not change the schedule for compensating for oil overproduction. Last month, oil production in Russia fell even more compared to June. However, production was 67,000 bpd higher than the established norm due to some problems with the schedule; this excess will be compensated for in the current and next month, the Russian Ministry of Energy claims. It was previously approved that Moscow would begin to cover the excess production from April 2024. For this purpose, two compensation schedules were agreed upon - in October-November of this year, as well as in March-September 2025. There were no volunteers to finance Poland's energy security. Poland will not be able to build a second line of the Pomeranian oil pipeline, which was supposed to become a reserve for the country. There were no volunteers to finance the project. The backup line of the Polish Pomeranian pipeline, which was supposed to transport oil from Gdansk to Plock, was declared as a strategic project. This new pipe was supposed to ensure the country's energy security. Warsaw even named the date for its commissioning - 2025. The planned pipe gained special significance after the start of Russia's SVO in Ukraine - the valve with Russian oil was shut off, the issue of alternative pipelines became acute. However, the project will not be implemented - there were no companies willing to finance it, writes "InoSMI". Neither Polish nor foreign companies wanted to invest in the new pipe. The Polish pipeline operator - the company PERN stated that it was not able to pull off this project alone. I have a confession to make. After starting Redu a year ago, most of my communication shifted to Russian. Previously, I had worked in international business and spoke English more often than Russian. So initially, this shift was quite challenging, and I literally had to re-master my Russian speaking skills. Little did I know that after dedicating so much effort to mastering Russian, I would find myself barely speaking English at all! My English conversations were limited to daily chats with my husband, a weekly call with my team and a few monthly meetings with English-speaking friends. It was quite embarrassing to notice myself losing the fluency and taking time to find the right word in those conversations. The problem has become obvious. So I decided to join our own Redu Speaking Club! 😃 I’m currently hosting one group session a week (“Parenthood vs Career”) and joining one or two more sessions a week as a member (“Expat life” and “Languages and Cultural Differences” are my faves). After two weeks I can report that my fluency and vocabulary have started to improve again. But what’s even more important… I realized that we’re building not just a Speaking Club but a real community filled with laughter, support and growth. Talking about things that matter to us, exchanging opinions and experience makes us more confident and helps to spark both neural and personal connections. For example, last week we discussed the immigrants’ challenges with fellow digital nomads based in Poland, Serbia, Thailand, and Portugal. Such different stories, yet we’ve got so much in common!
