Over 60% of all Ukrainian women have higher education and many areas of civil life can presently only be sustained with their efforts. This is also true for organic farming and food security. 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗨𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 Between February 13 - 16, 2024, the organic community will again meet in Nuremberg (Germany) at the World's Leading Trade Fair for #Organic Food, BIOFACH / VIVANESS The Swiss-Ukrainian Quality Food Trade Program (QFTP), funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and running since 2004, and the German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Farming (COA), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and running since 2016 are supporting Ukraine’s presence at BioFach 2024, together with other projects. This year’s support involves bringing together around 40 Ukrainian exporters as exhibitors in Ukrainian pavilions to the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Organic Food, assisting a high-level policy delegation from Ukraine and presenting the sector’s key actors at the BioFach Congress. “We are delighted that our support has helped so many companies from Ukraine to present their interesting organic products at Biofach this year.”, said Dr Stefan Dreesmann, head of the German project, and Eisenring Tobias, head of the Swiss project.” Bringing Ukrainian exporters to BioFach is essential to promoting sustainable trade and creating more and better jobs by strengthening the business competitiveness and capacities of #Ukrainian SMEs in the organic sector. By the end of 2022, Ukraine had a surface of certified organic land of 263’619 ha, 0.6% of the total agricultural land. In 2022, Ukraine exported 245’600 tons of goods with a total value of almost 219 million USD and became the third largest importing country to the EU. Therefore, the stability of the European organic market strongly depends on the reliability and strength of Ukrainian suppliers. This year, the Biofach Congress will host a high-level policy delegation from Ukraine with representatives from the Ukrainian parliament, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection and State Institution ‘Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office’. During the fair, they will network with organic policymakers and experts from all over the world.“ The long-standing collaboration between the Swiss and German projects since 2016, together with other partners, has supported Ukrainian public and private actors in strengthening Ukraine's organic sector. 🌿 On December, 17-20 Organic Initiative organised a study and trade tour to 🇵🇱 Poland for leading Ukrainian organic companies. The study and trade tour was organised with the financial support of 🇩🇪 the German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture project and organic operators. The tour was co-organised by Organic Business School and the Institute of Organic Production. 🇺🇦 The tour gathered the representatives of 11 organic producers: Agrofirma Pole LLC, ATS-Organic, Danube Agrarian, Jiva, Zhyva Nyva, Organic Original, Skvyrskyi Grain Processing Factory, Stodola, ТЕРРА (LLC) and others. In the frame of the study and trade tour the participants: 📍 visited Ekogala trade fair (Rzeszów, Poland), where more than 300 organic companies from Poland and the EU presented their organic products 📍 attended the training at the Organic Advisory Centre in Radom, Poland (Centrum Doradztwa Rolniczego w Brwinowie oddział w Radomiu) 📍 met with the leading Polish distribution and trading companies that sell organic products in Poland and the EU The tour participants visited the leading specialised organic stores, trading platforms, and retail chains in Warsaw and analysed the range of organic products on their shelves. 🤝 This B2B tour facilitated matchmaking between Ukrainian organic producers and processors and their further cooperation and partnership for the development of organic production and trade in Ukraine. 🌿 Organic Initiative launches a study on the gender profile of the Ukrainian organic sector! 🇺🇦 The Organic Initiative Public Association under the patronage of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine is starting a study of the gender profile of the organic sector of Ukraine. ✅ The purpose of the research is to study the role of women in the organic sector of Ukraine, the changes, in particular due to the full-scale war, to explore the challenges of the industry and possible ways to overcome them. ✅ The results of the study will be conclusions and recommendations for the for the Ukrainian organic stakeholders which will allow improving the gender balance in the industry and help to create better conditions for women's involvement in the organic sector. ✅ The goals and objectives of the study are in line with the objectives of the State Strategy for Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men until 2030 approved by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of August 12, 2022. "Ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men is recognized throughout the world as the most important factor in achieving sustainable development, as well as a condition for building a legal and democratic state in which human rights and freedoms are guaranteed and ensured," the strategy states. 🙌 The survey will be conducted in December 2023 and January 2024. As a part of USAID AGRO Programme's activities to develop the capacity of national associations in the agriculture, the Organic Initiative will provide technical support as an expert assistance in creating a development strategy. 🇺🇦 The purpose of cooperation is to strengthen the union's capacity through the development of a strategy for the development of the Organic Initiative as a 2nd level organisation in the short- and medium- term, for 2023-2025.
