Ongoing training in Bagamoyo is helping seaweed and sea cucumber farmers improve their production efficiency and scale up their operations. Conducted by IRDP and funded by UNDP’s Blue Economy portfolio, similar training has been held in Tanga, Unguja, and Pemba. This initiative is a part of UNDP’s broader goal of empowering local communities to not only improve sustainable marine farming practices but also to export their products internationally. #BlueEconomy #UNDP #Tanzania #SustainableFarming #MarineFarming

Yesterday, UNDP Tanzania strengthened its partnership with the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) as part of our ongoing efforts to grow future talent and foster collaboration on research and innovation. UNDP Resident Representative Shigeki Komatsubara met with SUZA Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Madame Haji to explore how universities can play a pivotal role in addressing community challenges and driving economic development through higher education. A key highlight of the collaboration is the WAsteX Lab Innovation Challenge, co-implemented with UNICEF, which has become a center of excellence for SUZA and opened doors to new funding opportunities. Additionally, UNDP will facilitate the university's hosting of the Kapuscinski Development Lectures (KAPTalks) - https://lnkd.in/ezZGG3r, offering students the opportunity to engage with global development experts. #HigherEducation #TalentDevelopment #Innovation #SustainableDevelopment #UNDP #Partnerships

Recently, UNDP's Resident Representative, Shigeki Komatsubara and the Nature & Ecosystem team engaged in strategic discussions with key government agencies, including Tanzania National Parks and the Tanzania Forest Services. The focus was on exploring the potential for channeling mobilized resources through UNDP to support sustainable development initiatives. As part of the mission, the team visited Mount Hanang Forest Nature Reserve, where they were impressed by the biodiversity restoration efforts. Through our collaboration with TFS, we are building resilience in Tanzania’s indigenous forests, boosting eco-tourism, and ensuring communities benefit from these efforts.
