About us

Hisani Foundation is established to empower and uplift the lives of children through comprehensive welfare services, ensuring their rights, health, education, and overall development are prioritized. In a Tanzanian community facing educational, healthcare, and economic challenges, with street-connected children further exacerbating issues, the establishment of Hisani Foundation emerged as a response. Recognizing the profound impact on children’s rights and welfare, passionate individuals formed the foundation to provide comprehensive support. Hisani Foundation adopts a holistic approach, addressing education, healthcare, child protection, street-connected children, alternative care, and economic strengthening. Guided by the motto “For every child, every right,” the foundation aims to empower the community by tackling root causes and fostering sustainable solutions, offering hope and positive change through respecting diversity and joint social action. Overall, Hisani Foundation envisions a compassionate society, ensuring individuals, especially children, access education, health, protection, economic opportunities, and reach their fullest potential.

  • A year ago today, I left Kenya after a life changing trip with an organization called KenyaConnect. There, alongside my classmates and faculty from The University of New Hampshire, I worked and assisted with staff and children in their mobile literacy, GirlBoy Empowerment programs, met with social workers at South Eastern Kenya University, and so much more. After 2 absolutely amazing weeks, I said goodbye to Kenya and my classmates and returned to Tanzania, where I met up with Abu and Ann (pictured below) for a safari. I've lived in Arusha previously and was so excited to finally get home, to my nyumbani. Over the week, I had many ongoing conversations with Abu over meals and while driving the many long miles between parks. It was then that Hisani Foundation TZ was born. My primary mission was to create a similar program to KenyaConnect, but tailor it to the needs of those in the greater Arusha area and beyond. When I was in Kenya, I saw a sign (pictured below) that reads, "I know why I came here. Do you?" When I took that picture, I could not have known that I would even have this idea. But I'm a firm believer that life will put you EXACTLY where you need to be. I am so proud to be a driving force behind Hisani Foundation and am so grateful to my team. I can't wait to see where this takes us! Love, Lauren CEO, President

  • Let's support women and girls to manage them with dignity. Menstrual hygiene is not a luxury, it's a right. By talking about periods openly, we can create a more inclusive and supportive world. Access to clean water, sanitation, and menstrual products is crucial for every girl.
