⚖ Realizing the Full Potential of ADR in Promoting Access to Justice and Fostering Economic Growth 💹 GIZ Tanzania, through the project on the Promotion of Rule of Law and Judiciary in Africa (PRoLA), collaborated with the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs (MoCLA) and Arbitral Institutions to conduct a one-day workshop themed "The Role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Access to Justice for Economic Growth." This workshop, held on 18 July in Dar es Salaam, brought together about 55 stakeholders from both the public and private sectors and served as a platform for exchanging and sharing best practices on how ADR can act as a catalyst for private sector development. Despite the importance of ADR in the community, most people lack a clear understanding of what ADR is, where to access these services and the role it plays in promoting access to justice. ADR offers ways for parties to settle civil disputes with the help of an independent third party and without the need for a formal court hearing or as an alternative to litigation. It involves the application of theories, procedures, and skills designed to achieve an agreement that is satisfying and acceptable to all parties in a non-adversarial manner. The importance of ADR lies in its ability to provide parties with a more efficient, cost-effective, and collaborative means of resolving disputes while preserving relationships and promoting justice. #ADR #AccessToJustice #RuleOfLaw #EconomicGrowth #GIZTanzania

💡 🐘 When “Problematic” Elephants become a Solution A group of women from Rahaleo, a village in the southern Ruvuma Landscape, showcased their artisanal works and in particular elephant dung papers at SabaSaba International Trade Fair in Dar es Salaam from 4th-7th July. These women are from an area where farms are severely affected by elephants. They are using elephant poop to make organic, eco-clean paper for sale. In this way they generate income to support their families, make sure they have enough food and pay school fees. In addition, a percentage of their benefits go to help community needs. GIZ is happy to support such innovative initiatives that revert the problem by transforming elephant presence into an opportunity. The women’s presence in the international fair was a first step for them to get exposure, learn new things and make their work to be seen and appreciated. It was their first time out of Tunduru District and the first time to see the ocean. Even the Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism (MNRT) came by the stand and she bought some of the products. The women group forms part of the Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) community groups. TANAPA’s Human-Wildlife Conflict management is supported by the “Mitigation of Human-Wildlife Conflict” project implemented by GIZ in cooperation with MNRT and commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). BMZ also commissioned the regional project “Employment Promotion for Women for the Green Transformation in Africa” (WE4D) which facilitated the participation of the "Women Entrepreneurship for Africa" (WE4A) beneficiaries under the umbrella of the Tanzanian Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) at the international fair. We wish this group to find a stable market and that this initiative can grow and expand to other elephant affected villages in the future. By the way, the paper doesn’t smell!!! ⚖ Survivor-centred approach: a way to enhance access to justice in cases of GBV in the community ⚖ Common gender-based violence (GBV) and violence against children (VAC) acts in Tanzania include child marriage, female genital mutilation, corporal punishment, rape, vulgar language, land conflicts and inheritance rights concerning women, and sexualized violence among married couples. These issues were raised by a total number of 82 paralegals from Dodoma, Dar es Salaam, and Tanga, that receive trainings on the provision of legal aid services with a survivor-centered approach. The trainings are conducted by the projects “Access to Justice for Women and Children” and “Promotion of Rule of Law and Judiciary in Africa”, jointly implemented by GIZ Tanzania and the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs (MoCLA). Many times, survivors do not report violent incidents worrying about family rejection, stigma, and discrimination, but also revictimization when reporting at the police station and seeking medical and legal aid. The trainings aim at raising awareness among paralegals and involved state actors in prioritizing the rights, needs, and wishes of GBV survivors in all aspects of reporting, medical examination, providing legal aid, and accessing justice.  The survivor-centered approach helps in ensuring that survivors receive the care, support, and respect they need to heal and rebuild their lives. By focusing on safety, respect, confidentiality, informed consent, non-discrimination, and empowerment, paralegals can foster a supportive environment contributing to survivors’ access to justice. Join us in our mission for #AccessToJustice! 🤝 #JusticeForAll #StopGBVSurvivorsVictimization #ParalegalForSafeCommunity

🌟💉🏥🩺 Health facilities need more than just medicines & medical supplies In Tanga Region, the GIZ health programme delivered a range of non-medical essentials to its partner health facilities, to improve their care. Newborns are now kept warm with electric heaters, to ensure optimal conditions for their growth. Television sets give mothers access to educational content, empowering them with essential health knowledge. Toolboxes are enabling better maintenance of medical equipment, prolonging their lifespan and effectiveness. Moreover, stabilizers are ensuring a steady supply of electricity to expensive and life-saving medical machines, maintaining uninterrupted healthcare delivery. GIZ remains committed to collaborating closely with partners in Tanga, aiming to raise the standard of healthcare services across the region. By enhancing these services, GIZ is not only improving health outcomes for mothers and babies but also fostering a healthier, more resilient community. 💙 #HealthcareForAll #GIZSupport #TangaRegion
