It’s Halloween Week on Doctor Odyssey — but did our beloved love triangle bring us tricks, or treats?
Just like clockwork, our two favorite boys, Tristan and Max, butt heads in the beginning of the episode. This time, however, their beef doesn’t revolve around Avery. The pair spar first over Johnny Depp — Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow, to be specific — and then Neptune, when they twice turn up in matching Halloween Week costumes. (These two are so similar, we’re willing to jettison the idea of a throuple and root for a Max/Tristan couple!)
But all that brewing tension doesn’t have a chance to manifest in any sexual or romantic gains. (We blame Tristan. This week, he only has room in his heart for one love: Halloween.)
After the big costume contest, the passengers head to the beach for a treasure hunt. The excursion takes a horrific turn when one guest gets trapped in a cave, with her arm wedged between rocks amid a rising tide. Max and Avery head to her rescue — creating an opportunity for some flirtation away from Tristan — but are too distracted by the woman’s impending doom to make any romantic progress.
Of course, the only way to save the woman is by sawing off her arm. Avery and Max ask the woman’s wife (played by Black Panther’s Marija Juliette Abney) for permission to amputate and she agrees. But after all of that talk of a 127 Hours-style rescue, Avery merely has to dislocate the woman’s elbow to dislodge her arm and bring her safely to shore. (Ryan Murphy is such a tease! Give us Halloween gore!)
Meanwhile, back on the ship, select passengers are being plagued by a non-contagious, zombie-like illness. Plus, Tristan’s love for Halloween has landed him in the infirmary — his spooky, decorative lamps have been leaking gas, giving him carbon monoxide poisoning.
Tristan makes a full recovery, joining the passengers and crew on the dance floor to celebrate the end of Halloween Week. Did Episode 5 leave you spooked by its tricks, or were you hoping for more love triangle treats?
Doctor Odyssey delivered another fantastic episode love Avery. Big on Episode 6 !!!
For one, tiny, hopeful second I thought that Johnny himself would make an appearance on the show.
Dr Odyssey did a fantastic job impersonating Captain Jack.
