cheerily redesigning outdated

this is a card game and a piece of book art. i took images and text from the book Detecting Your Hidden Allergies by William G. Crook, M.D. and made them into a deck of forty cards with one rules card.

Cheerily Redesigning Outdated is a project designed to break paradigms. it breaks card design paradigms by having non uniform disorganized cards, and it breaks game design paradigms by having a flimsy set of rules that are both unimportant and hard to follow. in doing these things, i’ve attempted to create a warmer kind of game. by softening the edges on usual card game paradigms, i tried to create a more fluid kind of game, one that acknowledges its players feelings and cares about them.

this is just a copy of it, not the actual game, as that is a one-of-a-kind. the idea of this was interesting to me as contemporary video and card games are so easily distributable. i wanted to make something completely undistributable.
