The push starts now!

Hello there humble Greeblins!

With the new month comes the big push to get this game fully funded so that I can finish it. What I want to talk about quick is what I think of when I think of a Greeblin (the art in this post is by BasiliskOnline, and was commissioned for the game). This will go over the most important details when considering what a Greeblin is: their name, their traits, and what they carry.

A Greeblin's Name

A Greeblin is someone who has no name, this isn't because they don't want one. It is because they were alone and so never knew they needed one. They never had to be called for, or had to identify themselves except as 'me'. This is why a Greeblin has no name, it is because it hasn't been determined yet. Through playing the game, this could be explored, and should be on the list of things explored if your Greeblin encounters any other 'people'. They may receive a name, gifted or pushed upon them and at this point it could be important to reflect on how your Greeblin feels for this name.

A Greeblin's Appearance

As I explain in the rules, a Greeblin is a person or creature but it has no set of definable traits. They can look like goblins, they can be tall and lanky people, or they can be hairless cats. All that really matters is that they can record their journey, that they can speak (whether through words, or movements, or symbols), and that they are going on a journey. While the rules currently don't explore the potential that could come from generating traits, it is not important how you look to figure out how you feel. Your appearance does not make you more or less worthy of making it to the place you dream of making it to in your journey.

Being a Greeblin, and being considered a Greeblin is more about behaviours. Similar to how I can feel like a Goblin when I am hoarding cheesy snacks and crackers in bed, anyone can feel and be a Greeblin. It is just something that you are, or that you can phase in and out of becoming.

A person who has been alone so long that they forget their name, and feel shivers in their shoes telling them to walk to a faraway shrine. This is how someone can phase into being a Greeblin. You can also become not a Greeblin by changing how you are, how you present yourselves, and how people see you. But phasing out of being a Greeblin isn't permanent, because once you have been a Greeblin it is a part of your memories. It is a part of your life experience and being that can surface and show itself at any point in time.

tldr; Greeblins are a way of life, not a species.

Items and Trinkets and Belongings

In the playtest rules (the rules of the game that are currently attached to this product page) the steps for creating a Greeblin involves: picking what you look like, what your treasured possession is, where you are coming from, and choosing where your journey's destination is. Set aside that I just talked about Greeblin's appearance above and said that Greeblins aren't bound by appearances. For the purposes of this post, think of the looks that you pick when creating your Greeblin to behave/act similar to how items would.

Your most treasured possession is as attached to you as gold plated fingernails and gems are. They are in this game, your characters traits as an individual and reflect what their life was prior to their journey. How they look, how they present themselves, and what they hold dear show the player what their character has taken from life until they set out to adventure. A Greeblin with tattoos that move with the breeze and whose treasure is a magic spoon, that says that a magic spoon is the thing they hold closest to their heart. Why does it hold such a pull on them? Was it because of where it was found? How did the Greeblin get their magical tattoos? This is the marks that the world has left on the Greeblin.

Where are they coming from? That is the world that left its mark on the Greeblin. Where they want to go? That is the world that the Greeblin wants to receive future marks from. This is the land and place that a Greeblin wants to shape their being.

Finally, TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

Finally, I hope that what I have written here reveals more of what the game is like and what the Greeblin means to me in how it is designed for character creation. That is enough for this post, and I will definitely have more information and things to explain about the game over the course of the month (the funding period).

Now, as a reminder, this month is the month I need to really push to hit the sales/funding goal in order to allow me to finish the art and writing for this game. I really want this thing to shine and be all that it can be and for me to do that I need to be able to cover the hours and time that it takes (which takes time away from my many jobs). I was so impressed and thrilled to see that we hit 25% before THE FUNDING PERIOD EVEN STARTED!

This is an amazing start and it really changed my outlook from "doubt I can do it" to "now I will feel silly if I don't do it, look at how far this has come!!"

So, if there is one thing I can ask, it is to share this games page as much as you.

Until the next update, have a goodnight and a good week!

Just printed out the booklet and looking forward to starting my Greeblin's journey! I saw the word "playtest" a couple times, but didn't see any specific calls for feedback. What types of feedback (if any) are you looking for from players at this stage and where can I provide it to you? Thanks!

Hello and thx you!

Yes, the game is still in development and so will be being updated and revised as I work towards finishing it. Any feedback from the current version is important and useful to me to learn how other people are playing the game and if there is any confusion in the ruleset as it currently stands.

If you want to provide feedback, I just created a thread on the community forum where you can post playtest feedback and comments. https://itch.io/t/1219230/playtesting-feedback

I'm open to most any feedback, but the most important to me is if there is any confusion in the game's rules. How long it takes to play. And any other comments.
