one of my favourite things about Fingon is that ‘Utulie’n aurë! Aiya Eldalië ar Atanatari! Utulie’n aurë’ is in Quenya. It is possible these were words borne of sudden emotion, and subsequently in his native tongue; it is also possible he used Quenya out of spite towards Thingol, who, after all, was not there to impose his ban.
#the even more interesting thing about this detail is that the MEN of hithlum also apparently speak quenya#see for example hurin and his cry of aurë entuluva#presumably they must have learned the language from the fingolfinians#so it sounds like fingolfin and his peeps were breaking out the quenya regularly#not just speaking it among themselves#which i find FASCINATING
