The coastline cannot be sustainable and resilient without mangroves: UNDP 🇺🇳🇹🇭 introduces a bottom-up model for mangrove and coastal ecosystem management tested in Phetchaburi province. . UNDP, BIOFIN - Biodiversity Finance Initiative in collaboration with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, the Department of Climate Change and Environment, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment shared the model and the results of the project on sustainable mangrove management and coastal ecosystem development in Phetchaburi province focused on local capacities and biodiversity businesses. Mangroves benefit the ecosystem and help various areas become more resilient to climate change. . Key outcomes 📌  The master plan for sustainable mangrove management and coastal ecosystem development built on Phetchaburi case that can be utilized in other areas 📌 Design of a Mangrove Learning Center based on concept of minimizing impact, sustaining biodiversity, strengthening community economics towards traditional means of livelihoods and universal design 📌 Biodiversity Finance Plan for Community Based Social Enterprise and its Mechanism for Sustainable Mangroves Management  📌 Development of a practical framework for Social Return on Investment (SROI), a tool for monitoring project returns, covering social, economic, and environmental impacts on communities around the Mangrove Learning Center . Sustainable, Safe, and Inclusive: UNDP Supports Phuket and Phang Nga Toward Sustainable Tourism and Inclusive Tsunami Preparedness. . Niamh Collier-Smith, UNDP Resident Representative to Thailand 🇺🇳🇹🇭, emphasized the importance of tourism in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and driving SDG Localization at the 25th International Island Tourism Policy Forum (The 25th ITOP Forum 2024) in Phuket. Alongside the Governor of Phuket and tourism representatives from 10 countries, she highlighted that the COVID-19 crisis has reinforced the need for environmentally conscious tourism that benefits local communities, creates jobs, supports inclusive economies, and adapts to climate change. . In addition to her participation in the forum, UNDP representative met with community leaders in Rassada District in Phuket, promoting a community-based approach to sustainable tourism. This initiative aims to benefit locals while preserving the environment, serving as a model for other communities. Rassada is one of the villages where UNDP has been actively supporting sustainable tourism initiatives. . Furthermore, UNDP representative visited Phang Nga province to engage with the Chumchonthai Foundation and local teachers about comprehensive tsunami preparedness. UNDP, in collaboration with Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and Office of the Basic Education Commission, has been working to enhance tsunami preparedness in over 270 coastal schools with support from the Japanese government. . Promote Business & Human Rights among Businesses in Asia-Pacific  💼🌏🚨 . UNDP, in collaboration with ILO, UN Women, OHCHR, UNICEF, UNEP, & the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights (UNWG), with support from the Swedish government, EU, & Government of Japan, organized the 6th UN Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum (RBHR Forum), Asia-Pacific from Sept. 25-27 at the UNCC in Bangkok & online. Pol Col Thawee Sodsong, Thailand’s Minister of Justice also attended for the opening of the Forum to promote business & human rights. . This year's forum centered on enhancing access to remedy across the region. With over 60 sessions, including panel discussions, roundtables, training, & networking opportunities, the forum provided a platform for meaningful dialogue & engagement among multi-stakeholders. Over 1,000 participants from various sectors attended, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing responsible business practices throughout the Asia-Pacific. ✨ . Additionally, UNDP welcomed a delegation from the Nepali government visiting Thailand to learn about Thailand's progress on Business & Human Rights, especially the implementation of the National Action Plan on Business & Human Rights. Moving towards a net-zero society by leading with the example of a Green Parliament.   UNDP is sharing approaches to building a pollution-free, Net Zero society at the event "Declaration of Intention for a Green Parliament Aiming for Net Zero by 2032."
