Synopsis
The recruits are playing a game of Cube when Heatwave arrives with geology researcher Finn O'Reilly. Hot Shot introduces Finn to Cube, and though he claims it's too difficult for humans, Finn manages to catch the cube without any trouble. Finn's found an ancient metal plate bearing an Autobot insignia in Ireland, which Heatwave identifies as a holokey. The key projects an image of Cybertronian text which Medix translates, and Finn recognizes as a passage from the Tome of Tales, an ancient book kept in Dublin. Hot Shot is surprised when Heatwave says Finn's going with them as he doesn't think the human will be able to keep up.
The group heads through the GroundBridge to Dublin where, thanks to Finn's contact, they're able to take a look at the Tome of Tales. Though Hot Shot again tries to sideline Finn, only a human can safely turn the delicate pages of the book, which turn out to have Cybertronian text on the corners. The holokey again projects a message which provides a clue pointing to Hag's Head, a location on the west coast. They arrive there and the holokey projects yet another message, this time pointing them to the Giant's Causeway.
They arrive there, but when Hot Shot can't get the holokey to show them anything, he believes Finn has got it wrong. Heatwave, being taller, is able to get the holokey to work, as the previous had mentioned a "giant's point of view". With a clue pointing to what might be treasure, Hot Shot and Finn charge forwards, only for Hot Shot to fall into a trap and land up in an unstable cavern. While the others work on a way to get him out, Hot Shot is guided by the holokey to a chest marked with an Autobot symbol. He quickly opens it, only to discover it's full of Tox-En! With time running short, Finn uncovers another tunnel into the cave and clambers in and, being immune to Tox-En, is able to close the box. Hot Shot concedes that humans can do things bots can't, and flies them both out of the cavern. The box displays a hologram of how an ancient Autobot teamed up with a human to conceal the Tox-En, and then it seals up the cavern. Finn suggests he and Hot Shot play Cube when they get back to the academy.

Quotes
"Grab it, Medix! Use my signature move, the Hot Shot Hop and Grab!"
"You really need better names for your moves."
- —Hot Shot and Wedge playing Cube.
"Anything from the holokey, Hot Shot?"
""Nothing! Maybe Finn was wrong about taking us here. He's only a primitive human after all."
- —Whirl asks a question and Hot Shot breaks out the racism.
"Speaking of working together, how about we play a game of Cube when we get back?"
"Normally I couldn't even imagine having a human on my Cube team, but now's a good time to start!"
- —Finn and Hot Shot
Notes
Continuity notes
- Tox-En, the deadly Energon variant, makes a return from Prime. It retains its Kryptonite-esque effects on Cybertronians.
- The "Ancient Autobot" mentioned in the episode seems to have been one of those who came to ancient Earth during the largely undefined period when Autobots began hiding their Energon stores offworld. This seems to be supported by the fact that this Autobot teamed up with humans to hide the Tox-En from another bot who wanted to do something "bad" with it, presumably a Decepticon. The faction notably used Tox-En as a bioweapon during the Great War (mentioned in the Prime episode "Toxicity").

Real-world references
- The title is a play on "X marks the spot", commonly referred to when someone finds the hiding place of what they're looking for.
- Finn notes that the Irish sport of Hurling is the fastest sport on Earth.
- Though the resemblance isn't exact, the unnamed college the team visits in Dublin appears to be Trinity College Dublin.

Trivia
- Unsurprisingly, the Cybertronian text projected by the key matches what the characters read aloud!
- Tox-En is noted to be rare. Humans do not experience its debilitating effects.
- The recruits' rather short stature is explicitly brought up as a plot point: a normal Cybertronian's eye-line is apparently higher. Maybe it's because they're young?
