Synopsis
A boy and his father are hiking around Mount Fuji's caldera. The lad kicks a stone in and is scolded by his father for disturbing the gods of the mountain. The two leave, and miss the ensuing rock slide inside the volcano which reveals the head of Dragotron. Dragotron's eye opens and sends out a signal causing the Four Oni Predacons to awaken.
At an Autobot base, Optimus Prime sees the red Predacon energy signals but also notices six blue energy signals—three on either side of the Predacon outbreak. He wonders what they could be...
In Tokyo, school lets out and Isami Tatewaki runs home to the kendo dojo his grandfather runs. There, he quickly dispatches a sparring opponent, who praises his skill. Isami's grandfather then attacks Isami, telling him not to rest on his laurels—an enemy can attack at any time! Isami's grandfather challenges Isami to a fight, but as they kneel before their dojo's sacred mirror, the Predacons Budora and Gaidora attack!
The sacred mirror is actually a Legendisc, which the Predacons want. Isami's grandfather tells him to protect the disc, and Isami makes a run for it. He soon realizes that, the more he runs, the more of the city the Predacons will destroy and decides to make a stand. The Predacons realize his motives, though, and threaten to kill some kids playing in the park if Isami doesn't hand over the disc.
Their underhanded tactics enrage Isami, and the Legendisc responds to his pleas. At the Kaminarimon, two statues pulse with energy, which then zaps into the nearest power lines. The energy courses through Tokyo, blowing out transformers and lights as it goes until engulfs Isami. As if possessed, Isami then looks at a nearby police car, fire truck, and jet fighter, scanning each of them. Three bursts of energy jump off him, materializing three vehicles based on the three he scanned.
The vehicles speak in amazement of their new forms and transform into robot forms, introducing themselves as Kenzan, Jinbu, and Ganoh, the Swordbot Samurai Team. In very old-fashioned Japanese, they tell Isami that he must not allow the Predacons to get their hands on the Legendisc.
Gaidora is not impressed, and uses his abilities to turn some nearby cars into Jaki minions.
The Swordbots announce their fighting styles and areas of expertise while putting the hurt on the Jaki, causing Gaidora to order a Jaki Combination. The Dark Jaki are fused into the monstrous Goradora, and Isami is scared by their awesome power. Sweat drips on the Legendisc as he begs for some way to stop the minions, and the disc responds by enabling the Swordbots to undergo a Triple Combination.
They combine into GoKenzan, and quickly dispatch the enemy combiner with a finisher. Gaidora re-materializes the Jaki, and forces them to combine once more and take to the skies. To compensate, the Swordbots recombine into GoJinbu, again dispatching Goradora with a finisher. Gaidora recombines them yet again, this time ordering Goradora to overwhelm the Swordbots with raw power, forcing the Swordbots to recombine into GoGanoh. Another finisher, and the brute is beaten back, but remains undefeated. The Swordbots recombine into GoKenzan, and use a super finisher to finish off and destroy Goradora for good. GoKenzan then strikes at Budora and Gaidora, resulting in a blinding explosion.
When the light clears, and the Swordbots and Isami find themselves transported to the past, where two armies stand prepared to engage each other in battle. Isami and the Swordbots notice that each army has a Legendisc attached to their standard before they are transported back to the present.
The Swordbots thank Isami for giving them new life, introduce themselves as super robot lifeforms called Transformers, and ask him to fight the Predacons with them. That night, Isami's friend Tobio Fūma calls and tells Isami that he and his Shinobi Team are in the fight too, leaving Isami uncertain of what to make of all this.

Notes
Real-world references
- The electrical charge carrying the three Swordbots originates in the statues of Fūjin and Raijin in Tokyo's famous Kaminarimon gate in Asakusa.
- When the electrical charge carrying the three Swordbots travels through Tokyo, it travels through several recognizable Tokyo landmarks.
- The era that Isami and the Swordbots get a glimpse at is the Sengoku period. The kanji "大一大万大吉" on one of the army's standards was one of the mon, or crest, of Ishida Mitsunari, who fought against Tokugawa Ieyasu's forces, those bearing the standard of three hollyhock leaves within a circle as the crest for the Tokugawa clan, in the Battle of Sekigahara. This is the battle that Isami and the Swordbots bear witness to.
