Hot Shot gets help with his flying technique from a surprising visitor.

Contents

Synopsis

As part of a simulation, the recruits are setting up a sandbag wall as a firebreak. Whirl has the others load extra sandbags onto the tray she's using to transport the bags, despite obviously struggling. As time ticks down, Medix reflects that they need more helicopters, at which point Hot Shot transforms to jet mode and has him attach sandbags to his wings so he can carry them to the firebreak. This results in Hot Shot crashing into Whirl, and the pair of them landing on the firebreak, breaking it. Heatwave calls Hot Shot to his office and reveals he's called in Blades to help him learn to control his jet mode. The recruits are excited to finally meet Blades, and he agrees to tell them a story about Bumblebee winning a race and stopping a bank robber. Blades decides it's time to get training, at which point Whirl asks to be included too.

In Hero Hall, Hot Shot is keen to start, expecting the lessons to be about speed, but instead Blades has him and Whirl hover in place for two hours. The next day, Blades has set up an obstacle course, and instructs the recruits to fly through it slowly. Hot Shot and Whirl enter the following day to find the obstacle course is now obscured by mist, and Hot Shot tries to fly through, only to hit everything. Blades tells him to observe how the mist acts around solid surfaces, but Hot Shot still has trouble.

Hot Shot returns to the others, complaining that Blades's lessons have all been about flying slowly. The rescue alarm goes off and the recruits report to the GroundBridge room, where Heatwave briefs them on a forest fire. Hot Shot doesn't think his flying ability will be useful as he isn't as skilled as Blades or Whirl, but Heatwave tells him to just be himself. As they set up a firebreak to contain the fire, Blades reports that there are humans trapped somewhere in the forest, but he can't see them in the smoke. Medix magnetizes his feet to the underside of Hot Shot's jet mode, and they head into the fire where they're able to rescue two firefighters. The other recruits have meanwhile contained the fire, and celebrate as Hot Shot and Medix emerge with the rescued humans.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • After previously appearing as a face on Mount Botmore (and his previous out-of-order guest appearance in "Go Team, Go!"), Blades finally makes his proper debut in this episode.
  • As the recruits discuss Hot Shot, Whirl and Medix are playing with the smartphones featured in "Screen Time", and Wedge is later seen playing with one.
  • Wedge compares Medix and Hot Shot's rescue technique to "the famous Bumbleblades meteor team up move" which took place back in "Bumblebee to the Rescue".

  • As a result of shifting episode orders, Blades had already appeared in the show multiple times before this one premiered. This made it a little unusual for those who had been following the show week-to-week to see the whole cast act like they were excited to meet Blades for the first time.

Foreign localization

French

  • Title: "Le secret du vol" ("The secret of flight")
