Forged

The Forged are a faction of former Decepticons shaped into a new faction by Shockwave during the war on Cybertron. They serve Shockwave loyally and consider themselves his metaphorical hammer, aiding him in "re-forging" Cybertron by capturing and brainwashing other Cybertronians, turning them into additional Forged.

During the time Cybertron was evacuated by both Autobots and Decepticons, Ser-Ket led the Forged from a prison located in the Sea of Rust. Rage of the Dinobots #2 During the exodus, Ultra Magnus was shot down by Decepticons and crashed in the territory of the Forged who captured him. Rage of the Dinobots #1 Swoop later also became a prisoner of the Forged leading to his fellow Dinobots staging a rescue of him. Slug was not impressed at the capabilities of the Forged during a fight with them but were surrounded by them. Rage of the Dinobots #2 Grimlock challenged Ser-Ket to a duel and if he won then Swoop along with the Dinobots would be freed. Ultimately, he defeated his foe and the Forged demonstrated themselves to be mechanical beings of their word allowing the Dinobots to leave with their comrade. Rage of the Dinobots #3
The surviving Autobot factions on Cybertron abandoned the ruined surface and moved into the underground, where they waged a constant struggle for survival against the Forged and Insecticons. The Forged had attacked New Kalis at some point leaving behind several of their bodies which Grimlock wanted to examine. At Last Spark, Snarl and Sludge examined the body of an Autobot and they determined that the attacker had a great deal of power which ruled out the Forged but could have been an Insecticon. At an Insecticon hive, they discovered the bodies of several Forged who had turned against one another due to lack of Energon. Beast Hunters #1 Grimlock and Swoop later encountered a squad of Forged guarding something that turned out, after they had dispatched the squad, to be one of Shockwave's old laboratories. A cataclysm of sorts hit the planet, causing the destruction of many underground settlements. The Forged soldier Blackout was the sole survivor of his settlement, and was found by Slug, Beast Hunters #5 though he later perished as a result of his injuries. The surviving Forged emerged on the surface, where they decided to continue the war by attacking the Autobots they encountered. Unfortunately for them they'd found the Dinobots, and they were comprehensively slaughtered. Beast Hunters #7 The Dinobots were joined by members of Team Prime, which proved an even more lethal combination for the remaining Forged. Beast Hunters #8
Notes
- One way to perform a lobotomy involves reaching the brain by puncturing the eye sockets. Considering the Forged have a habit of wearing eyepatches and how Swoop was brainwashed, it's possible not a lot of the Forged joined of their own free will.
