Spud Muffin? Who is Spud Muffin? My name is Fry Incognito!

Dud Spud might've spent too long in the fryer.

  • Hunger Hubs (5-pack, 2022)
  • Series: 6
  • Rarity: Common
Part of the sixth Series of BotBots, Dud Spud is a very, very minor redeco of Spud Muffin, transforming into a carton of french fries. The most obvious difference between the two is the different mouth tampograph, but there's a bunch of less-obvious ones as well: Dud lacks the inner-arm paint, the red and yellow paint is a more orangeish hue, and the rest of the paint and plastic is ever-so-slightly brighter than Spud Muffin's.
They were available in one of the "Hunger Hubs"-themed 5-packs, in the blind-packed portion of the set containing Brock O'Lonely, Cold Turkey, Don Meleon, and Wafflenetic.

  • Racer-Roni (Vehicle pack, 2023)
  • Series: 6
  • Rarity: Common
Dud Spud was also available in the Racer-Roni vehicle set, along with Ulf the Orange, Veggietron, and Grease Drip from the Oil Slicks.

  • Dud Spud is... weird. No other mold-reuse in BotBots is so minorly changed from the original; when images of Series 6 released, many assumed it was just going to be Spud Muffin again, which made sense given his prominence in the BotBots cartoon. The mystery deepens, however, as the pack-in catalog shows a very different deco for Dud Spud, with a yellow visor and reddish-orange fries, implying Cajun-style or possibly sweet potato fries. Yet Dud is in five different pieces of box-art this series and they're all in the final Spud-Muffin-esque colors. Meanwhile, fellow pack-in Veggietron is in three of those pieces of art with their catalog-photo colors that differ significantly from the final Veggietron toy....
It's possible the original Dud was originally planned as a new Bot in new colors (back when much of this product was apparently slated for a Series 7 release), then was changed into a "re-release" of Spud Muffin to tie into the cartoon more, but the name change and checklist photo change didn't make it to final print. With the possibility that Veggietron was at one point intended to be a similarly-new version of Burgertron (the catalog/art colors are just a redder tint of the Burgertron deco), that would put the main three Hunger Hubs from the cartoon in the show-featured vehicle pack. How the character/coloration kerfuffle happened with Dud Spud and Veggietron is something we've yet to untangle.
