Blitzwing was a member of the Decepticons selected for Starscream's detachment on planet Earth. Having spent the last few million years on a homeworld he politely described as "a planet-sized junkyard, partially on fire", Blitzwing was mesmerized by the naturally-occurring life and beauty of Earth.
One day, he was hanging out with Will, one of the Decepticons' human companions. Will installed his O-Pod music sharing device in Blitzwing's sound system in order to broaden the Decepticon's appreciation of human culture. Blitzwing was a little nonplussed at the music, but further debate was put on hold when Blitzwing's sensors picked up Autobot energy emanations. He and Will tracked the signal to a stellar spanner being constructed in the desert by Goldbug, Wheeljack and Side Burn. Blitzwing signaled for reinforcements, but the majority of the team were busy digging out the crashed Astrotrain, leaving Heatwave as Blitzwing's only back-up. Heatwave's attempt to communicate with the Spanner tele-mechanically led to him being captured and "volunteered" as the first voyager back to Cybertron (...or into the merciless void of space, if Wheeljack's math was off. Hence, "the volunteer".)
Blitzwing attempted to stop the countdown by plugging directly into the stellar spanner's virtual database. While cyber-searching for the proper software, he also grabbed up any stray data he could find which looked useful, including the Autobots' private communication frequency and codes. His efforts were cut short by an electro-shell fired by Wheeljack, disconnecting Blitzwing from the console and fusing his internal circuitry. Heatwave was launched into the vortex, but a curious side-effect also occurred. Blitzwing's system damage somehow activated the O-Pod, sending out a non-stop ballad of music on his comm systems. Because he downloaded the Autobot comm channel, Blitzwing was also broadcasting relentlessly on their private frequency, leaving any Autobot in his presence disoriented with the inundation of music.
Back at the Nemesis, Starscream and Soundwave quickly saw the tactical advantage of Blitzwing's new circuit-scrambling broadcasts, and ignored his requests to remove the fused O-Pod somehow and give him back his peace and quiet. Instead, Blitzwing was signed up for all Decepticon missions over the next few days, the "secret weapon" for incapacitating any Autobot plans. He brought down Swoop and Star Saber as they drilled to the center of the Earth, and Brawn and Elita One at the carwash of doom.
Unfortunately, the "secret weapon" was too good to last. The effect on Blitzwing's systems began to escalate, so that the music was now transmitting uncontrollably on Decepticon frequencies as well, and over an ever-expanding range. Trying to spare his friends the misery of his constant broadcasts, Blitzwing ran away from home and got a job as the "Big Tank of Savings!" at Big Steve Ludwig's car lot, and later as the new Monsteroso at Wyatt's Roadsideaganza. His efforts at hiding were interrupted by Blaster, one of the few Autobots left unaffected by the musical onslaught. After a few scuffles, Blaster managed to capture Blitzwing. The fiendish Autobot's plan was to launch Blitzwing across the stellar spanner back to Cybertron, attached to a broadcast signal amplifier that made him a living "sonic bomb". Blitzwing's signal would wipe out all life on Cybertron as his sound system went critical, eliminating Megatron and the Decepticons as well as Optimus Prime and the Autobots still loyal to him. Luckily, Soundwave arrived with reinforcements in the form of Thunderwing of the Elite Guard. Together, they managed to free Blitzwing from the Spanner, repair his systems, and send Blaster on a one-way trip to Earth's soundless moon. Blitzwing Bop
Blitzwing was part of the team that went to support Sephie Beller when she went on a one-human attempt to attack the Autobots. The Decepticons were promptly outnumbered and captured by the Autobots, who firmly bound them. Before the Autobots could terminate them, industrialist R.J. Blackrock arrived piloting a Centurion mech suit and attacked their enemy. Sephie managed to free Cliffjumper, and he and Starscream began trying to free Blitzwing in the hopes his firepower would be enough to give them the upper hand. In the end, Sephie saved them all by carrying the overloading Centurion to a safe distance before it exploded. In the aftermath, Blitzwing helped support Soundwave, who'd been injured during the fight. Transhuman
Blitzwing continued working for Starscream and the Decepticons stationed on Earth. Like many of his brethren, he had trouble accepting Cyclonus back into their ranks after the assassination attempt on Megatron. Coalescence
With Soundwave, Blitzwing was invited to the Dancitron, where he was regaled with Soundwave's account of his experience with Solarbot. Sunrise
