Batscout
From Transformers Wiki
- Batscout is a Maximal drone from the Beast Wars portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Batscout is a radical robo-bat drone in service of the Maximal warrior Polar Claw. It is Polar Claw's second set of eyes, able to fly high and far to find the targets of interest to its master. Batscout can relay information over a distance of 3000 miles. The only downside of its link to Polar Claw is that the enemy can utilize it to render Polar Claw unconscious.

Toys
Beast Wars
- Polar Claw (Mega, 1996)
- Takara ID number: C-2
- Known designers: Yuichiro Hira (TakaraTomy), Masakatsu Saito (concept artist)
- Available only with Polar Claw, the drone transforms from Polar Claw's right beast mode foreleg into a "robotic bat" via a spring-loaded launching/auto-transform mechanism. It also has a peg on his underside so Polar Claw can use it as a (non-firing) hand-held pistol.
- This mold was also used to make Nightshriek and True One.
- Hokkyoku no Taiketsu: Whiteclaw VS Scorpos (Vs set, 1996)
- ID number: VS-2
- In Japan, "Bat Scout" was available both with the single-pack release of Polar Claw, and as part of the "Arctic Showdown" (北極の対決) two-pack with Scorponok. Both toys are identical to their individual releases.

- The robo-bat was depicted on Polar Claw's card, who was one of the 24 beast warriors to receive a battle card representation for the Beast Wars card game.
Notes
- Batscout did not have a well-established English name prior to 2008. Hasbro's 1996 pre-Toy Fair catalog gives the drone the generic descriptor of "radical robo-bat" as part of the product copy for Barbearian, the prototype version of Polar Claw. Subsequent English material during Beast Wars does not give the bat a name beyond "bat" in the instructions and "robotic bat" in Polar Claw's profile, although it is referred to as "Bat Scout" (バット・スカウト) in licensed Takara guidebooks and trading cards.[1] The Japanese name likely influenced the 2008 trade paperback release of Transformers: Beast Wars Sourcebook, which goes with "Batscout".
