Valis III is, you guessed it, the third game in the Valis series and once again features the series' main protagonist Yuko as the lead character. The English release is infamous for its hilariously bad voice acting.

Debug Menu

To access the debug menu in the North American version, press II, II, Left, Right, Down, Up, and Run at the title screen.
For the Japanese version, at the game menu, choose "Start". Press Run at the intro and you'll get the title screen. In this screen, press I, I, Up, Down, Right, Left, and Run.
Within the menu, press II to switch between the cutscene viewer and sound/message tests.

The copyright information was shortened in the North American version, and "FROM NEC" was added to reflect the change in publisher. The colour of "PUSH RUN BUTTON" was also changed to gold.

Comical Recap

In the Japanese version there is a code to see a comical version of the recap of Valis I and II. This code does not work in the North American version.

At the game menu, select "Start" and the intro will begin. Now, press I, I, I, I, Up, Up, Down, Down, Right, Right, Left, Left, I, I, I, I, Up, Up, Down, Down, Right, Right, Left, Left and press Run. Alternatively, you can let the intro run and when Glames (the bad guy) is holding a sword, press Up Run to access the same hidden scenes. Accessing the comical recap through the second method will append "Final Battle" to the game's title.

Debug Menu's Roulette

The debug menu in the Japanese version has an extra "Roulette" mode.

In this mode, the player needs to win 150 points within 10 attempts in the roulette game. When the roulette starts, press I to stop one of the icons from left to right. Getting any combination of icons shown in the "Odds" table below will yield the corresponding points. The order of icons is irrelevant. In case of "girls" icons, getting the equivalent combination with other girls (Cham or Varna, the other two main characters) can also earn points, but a valid combination can only contain icons of the same girl.

If the player can meet the requirement, two more screens will appear, showing the method of chance to get Valis III related goods. In order to participate, one needs to cut part of the manual book to find a "hidden command" and write it in a letter and mail to the specified address. However, this event has already ended in 1990 (the year of game release).
