This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
Splatoon 2, Nintendo's Switch successor to the hugely popular Splatoon, freshens up the series on a new system with a new hub, new characters, new weapons, new stages, a new story mode, and the series first DLC campaign.
Semi-infamously, this game hides a massive underbelly of unused content that could rival the likes of games such as Super Mario Sunshine and Bully.
To do: EVERYTHING.

Unused Multiplayer Map Entries
All of the maps from the first game appear in unused data, along with some completely new maps.
Internal name | English name | Notes |
---|---|---|
Fld_Athletic00_Vss | Camp Triggerfish | Returned on April 24, 2018, to coincide with Version 3.0. |
Fld_Crank00_Vss | Urchin Underpass | |
Fld_Ditch00_Vss | The Reef | Unused version of the existing map that has since been removed (Fld_Ditch01_Vss is the used version). The Reef was the first map developed for the game, so it's possible this was used in one of the demo versions. |
Fld_Hiagari00_Vss | Mahi-Mahi Resort | Omitted from early versions of the game. |
Fld_Jyoheki00_Vss | Flounder Heights | |
Fld_Kaisou00_Vss | Hammerhead Bridge | |
Fld_Kawa00_Vss | Snapper Canal | The aqueduct stage that was seen in the direct wouldn't appear until October 7th, 2017. |
Fld_Maze00_Vss | Kelp Dome | Returned on September 16th, 2017. |
Fld_Office00_Vss | Ancho-V Games | Returned on July 12, 2018. |
Fld_Pillar00_Vss | Manta Maria | Has since been released, though it is unclear if this entry was used for the final map (see note below about Port Mackerel). |
Fld_Pivot00_Vss | Museum d'Alfonsino | |
Fld_Quarry00_Vss | Piranha Pit | Returned on March 30th, 2018. |
Fld_Ruins00_Vss | Bluefin Depot | |
Fld_SeaPlant00_Vss | Saltspray Rig | |
Fld_SkatePark00_Vss | Blackbelly Skatepark | Returned on October 27th, 2017. |
Fld_UpDown00_Vss | Arowana Mall | Returned on February 2nd, 2018. |
Fld_Warehouse00_Vss | Walleye Warehouse | Returned on December 15th, 2017. |
It is notable that Port Mackerel's filename uses "01" instead of "00", so these entries may just be for testing.

Regional Differences
Japan-Exclusive Gear
Two runs of gear were made available from the Japanese comic Corocoro Magazine, where the codes will only work with the Japanese version of the game, nor cannot be ordered via Murch therefore making it unobtainable in other-region versions. The localized names don't go unused due to them being seen during online battles.
- The Eminence Cuff, Milky Eminence Jacket, and Milky Enperrials were made available in November 2017, based off the outfit Emperor worn in the Splatoon manga.
- The Spy Gear, consisting of the Sennyu Suit, Sennyu Inksoles, Sennyu Goggles, Sennyu Headphones, Sennyu Specs were available in the August 2018 issue of Corocoro, based off the outfits the manga protagonists worn in the manga.
Internal Project Name
Splatoon 2's internal project name is Blitz, based on strings in the executable.
Octo Expansion's internal name is Octa, which may be in reference to the prominence of Octolings in the DLC's story and the addition of playable Octolings.
