Regional Differences
Banjo-Tooie has a US, Australian, Japanese, European, and XBLA version with different adjustments for their specific region. All differences are considered regional, as each region only has one build of the game. Exception is the XBLA version with its plenty of revisional changes for the Xbox Live Arcade.

A screen scale setting was added to the options in the EU and AU versions. The US and JP versions render at 304×226 and the EU and AU versions render at 304×268.
Gameplay Demos
All gameplay demos were rerecorded in the Australian and European versions, likely due to timing differences as a result of Australia and Europe running at 50Hz versus the US version running at 60Hz.
Replay Mode Pause Screen
Pausing the game during any boss or minigame in Replay Mode in the US version will claim that Banjo has 90 Jiggies and 900 Notes, even though those counters do not make sense in this context. They were removed from Replay Mode in every version onward.
Eggs/Feathers Counters
When the infinite eggs and feathers cheats are enabled, the counters for those items will display LOTS in the North American and Australian versions. In other versions of the game, the counters will display 999.
Mumbo's Skull
In the US version, after seeing Mumbo for the first time, on every subsequent visit you can talk to Mumbo from the bottom floor of the skull to activate him. This oversight was patched in every other version.
Hitbox Extension
In the US version, it's possible to collect Jiggies, Jinjos and Cheato Pages through walls by making use of the extended hitbox of certain moves such as Beak Barge, firing an egg or swimming, leading to massive sequence breaks. In every other version, this was patched out, although other collectibles (eggs, feathers, honeycombs and notes) can still be collected in this manner.
Damage Clockwork Warps
In the US, Japanese and Australian versions, if you shoot a Clockwork Kazooie Egg, hit a loading zone as Clockwork Kazooie and Banjo gets hit during the screen transition (for example, by getting hit by an enemy), the Clockwork Kazooie will explode and Banjo will go through the loading zone instead, leading to massive sequence breaks. In the European version, Banjo cannot be hit during a screen transition, which reduces the timing for this glitch to one frame (the frame before the screen transition loads).
Clockwork Kazooie Softlock
In the US version, it's possible to trigger a softlock if Banjo shoots a Clockwork Kazooie Egg and then gets drifted into a loading zone while the Clockwork Kazooie is active through either ice (Hailfire Peaks) or a water current (Spiral Mountain) if the Clockwork Kazooie detonates in a different area than the one Banjo is in. This was fixed in every other version.
Jiggywiggy's Temple Cutscene
The cutscene where Banjo is made aware of Jiggywiggy's Temple after exiting Bottles' House is unskippable in the US version, but can be skipped with L R B in every other version.
Targitzan's Slightly Secret Chamber
Targitzan's Slightly Secret Chamber is misspelled as "Targitzan's Slighty Secret Chamber" in the US and Australian versions. This was fixed in the European version.
Plateau Zombie Glitch
On the Plateau, it's possible to die and fall into the loading zone to Glitter Gulch Mine during the death animation. This cancels the death animation and spawns you in Glitter Gulch Mine with 0 honeycombs, which glitches the game in a lot of ways (i. e. collision with enemies and objects is disabled). This glitch was fixed in the European version.
Power Hut Sign
The information signpost near the Power Hut says "Pressing the control stick only slightly will make you tiptoe silently." in the US version. This is a duplicate of a similar sign in Jade Snake Grove, where the hint makes sense, but here it's completely nonsensical. This was changed to "The generators need to be lit, but to switch on the lights requires a split." in the Australian and European versions. This change was retained for the XBLA version.
Detonator Levitation
In the US version, it's possible to levitate as the Detonator by swimming against a slope and pressing B to detonate at a precise moment. This was fixed in every other version.
Out of Bounds in Oogle Boogle's Cave
In the Oogle Boogle's cave in Terrydactyland, there's a tunnel that leads to Witchyworld and at the end of the tunnel is a sign. In the North American, Australian, and Japanese versions, it's possible to grab the top of the sign and climb on top of it which allows Banjo to go out of bounds. This was fixed in the European and Xbox Live Arcade versions.
Three-armed Pig

Trotty, the mutated three-armed pig in Jolly Roger's Lagoon, only has two arms in the Japanese version of the game, likely due to cultural reasons since mutations are commonly associated with the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings in Japan. His dialogue was altered to match:

Bizarrely, while the model change was reverted in the XBLA version, the dialogue was not retranslated, so Trotty still whinges about his beach ball despite, y'know, having three arms.
Grunty Industries Screws
In Grunty Industries, after unscrewing one of the screws you can move around until the cutscene starts in the US version, whereas you're locked in place in every other version. This was changed to fix a bug: on the 2nd floor, one of the frames you have to unscrew is very close to the loading zone that leads outside. With the SUPERBANJO cheat active, you can reach the loading zone after unscrewing the screw but before the cutscene starts, which then triggers a glitchy cutscene.
Grunty Industries Loggo Conversation
In Grunty Industries, if you talk to Loggo the Toilet as solo Kazooie in the US version, after Loggo says "Hey there Kazooie!", Banjo will say "Loggo!", even though he should logically not be present in this conversation. This was fixed in every version onward.
Grunty Industries Waste Disposal
In Grunty Industries, the solo Banjo switch in Waste Disposal that breaks the glass cage containing the Jiggy can be pressed as Banjo & Kazooie. This was fixed in the European version.
Boggy Fish Jiggy Softlock
In Hailfire Peaks, it is possible to give Boggy the fish from the basement floor of his igloo. The game will then spawn the Jiggy but never give control back to the player, softlocking the game. This was fixed in the European version.
Trash Can Mini-Game Crash
In the North American version of the game, it is possible to crash the game in the trash can germs mini-game in Cloud Cuckooland. While the mini-game is playing, stand in front of Guffo and rapidly tap B to talk to him. This will queue up too many text boxes and crash the game. In every other version of the game, this glitch was fixed by not allowing the player to queue another text box until the current one is closed.
Tower of Tragedy Quiz Billboard

Grunty Defeated Cutscene

In the ending cutscene, Gruntilda's skull was replaced with a sack that resembles her clothing in the Japanese version of the game, presumably censorship related to decapitation due to the events of the Kobe child murders that had occurred at the time of the Japanese version's release. Grunty's eyeball still pops out, however. Strangely enough, this censorship wasn't applied to the XBLA version of the game.

On April 29th, 2009, less than a year after Banjo-Kazooie's remastered Xbox Live Arcade port, a port of Banjo-Tooie was released digitally on the service. This is also the version that was used for Rare Replay on Xbox One, running on Xbox 360 emulation. Just like Banjo-Kazooie, this port seems to have been rebuilt natively on Xbox 360 hardware rather than straightforward Nintendo 64 emulation, and as a result several things have changed:
- The game runs at 1080P resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio, just like the last game's aforementioned port.
- The spinning Nintendo 64 logo at the beginning of the game was removed completely.
- Framerate issues have been fixed, and the game now runs at a consistent 30 FPS the whole way.
- Several textures have been redone. Some are simply in higher quality, while all talking head icons have been redone from scratch, and the speech font has been changed to match that in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.
- The Banjo-Tooie N64 box in the menu was retextured to instead resemble 2 cases of Nuts & Bolts.
- The method of obtaining the Stop 'n' Swop items has been changed. Instead of the blue and pink Mystery Eggs and Ice Key being obtained through finding and defeating the N64 cartridge enemies, they are instead automatically earned upon collecting them in Banjo-Kazooie. The yellow Mystery Egg, originally obtained by using Kazooie’s Hatch move on the egg in Heggy’s Egg Shed, is also instead obtained using the same method as the previously mentioned items. The key and first three eggs unlock the same rewards as the original version, while the other eggs unlock an Xbox Live Gamerpic and Dashboard theme. Heggy's dialogue is altered to suit, though anachronistically.
- Upon hatching all the original eggs, the N64 cartridges appear in the overworld with new Bronze, Silver, and Gold Mystery Eggs, which are part of "Stop 'n' Swop II".
- This also renders Kazooie's Hatch and the Split-Up Pads within Heggy’s Egg Shed meaningless, as they were tied to obtaining the yellow egg in there in the N64 version.
- In the N64 version, the pink Mystery Egg is hatched in the nest on the right of Heggy. In the Xbox Live Arcade port, all eggs are hatched in the left nest, leaving the right nest as nothing but useless decoration. Banjo's dialogue when hatching the second egg was altered accordingly.
- The save option from the menu is gone, replaced with a menu where the secret tips from Jiggywiggy's temple are listed.
- The Jinjos menu has been merged into the View Totals menu.
- Minigames and bosses can be replayed to record times for leaderboards.
- The Mario name-drop when talking to Loggo twice has been replaced with "That well-known Italian one".
- The DK fridge magnet in the Workers' Quarters is now a BK magnet; the relevant quiz show question has been modified to match (the game that doesn't have a magnet is now Nuts & Bolts).
- The Donkey Kong doll Goggles holds has had its eye texture changed to look less like Donkey Kong, although it's still rather obviously DK. The relevant quiz question has its answer changed to "a cuddly gorilla".
- The quiz question about the button count of an N64 controller (10) has been changed to an Xbox 360 one (13).
- Due to the Banjo-Tooie cover on Xbox Live Arcade having a different design from the box the game was originally released in for the Nintendo 64, the relevant quiz questions were changed to compensate.
- Jamjars' rhyming speech involving button presses is frequently ruined by the new controller mappings; no effort has been made to come up with new rhymes.
- Audio can get pretty glitchy. Sound effects often cut out prematurely, stereo balance breaks whenever Banjo dives underwater, and the theremin instrument lacks vibrato. The latter is most noticeable in the jingle that plays whenever a Jiggy appears.
- In the N64 version, during the "Bottles and Jingaling Restored" cinema, Kazooie will activate the B.O.B. for the first time and Jamjars will say "You crazy feathered punk! Anything might happe" but the game will cut to the next scene before the text has the chance to appear on the screen completely. This was fixed in the Xbox Live Arcade version, and the full dialogue is revealed to be "You crazy feathered punk! Anything might happen now...".
- In the N64 version, Boggy says he's watching a "Bear Babes 'n' Eskimos" DVD. In the XBLA version, this is changed to "Bear Babes 'n' Bigfoot". This is likely due to rising concerns over the term "Eskimo" being used an offensive slur to Inuit people.
