Set up feed rules for multi-client accounts

A custom icon for Merchant Center Classic Article Header.

If you’re looking for information about how to set up your attribute rules for multi-client accounts in the Merchant Center Next, click here.
This feature is only available for retailers who have already opted-in and is temporarily unavailable for new retailers.

By default, feed rules that you set at the multi-client account level apply to all sub-accounts under that account. To create unique rules in a sub-account, you’ll need to exclude that sub-account from the multi-client feed rules inheritance.

How it works

All feeds (online and local) will inherit rules, except if the sub-account is excluded or if multi-client account rules are disabled.

Note: To enable multi-client level feed rules, turn on the toggle next to “Apply feed rules and supplemental feed data to all sub-accounts” in the “Rules and supplemental feeds” section.

The default rule, in this context, is the rule Google assigns for each attribute in your feed by taking the value from your primary feed.

Instructions

To exclude a single account from feed rules, click Sub-accounts in the "Rules and feeds" section of your multi-client account.
Test multi-client marketplace account feed rules
After you’ve created a rules draft, you can test the draft and preview how the rules would impact your product data. Keep in mind that if you created the rules in the parent multi-client account, you won't be able to test them from that account. To test them in a sub-account:
  1. Make sure multi-client account rules are enabled.
  2. Select a non-excluded sub-account.
  3. Go to the Feeds section.
  4. Select a feed.
  5. Click on the Rules tab for the feed.
  6. Make sure that the rules you see are those that you’ve created at the multi-client account level. They should be marked as “View only.”
  7. Click Test changes.
  8. Wait for the report to generate. This test may take between 10 and 20 minutes.
  9. Review the results of the test and confirm that the new rules are doing what you intended. Learn more about testing and previewing your feed rules on the sub-account.
  10. If the rules aren't working the way you intended, update any rules that may need adjusting.
  11. To run another test with your new updates, click Test changes.
  12. If you want to run a new test using the same drafted rules and updated product data, click Retest.
  13. Once you're satisfied with your rules, click Apply in the multi-client account view. Your drafted rules will go live and be applied to your product data.
