Use accessibility features with Siri on iPhone
With Siri, you can turn many accessibility features on or off, make and receive phone calls, hear notifications, and more. Use Siri for what it does best—acting as your intelligent personal assistant.
Turn accessibility features on or off
Siri is often the easiest way to start using accessibility features with iPhone.
Siri: Say something like: “Turn on VoiceOver” or “Turn off VoiceOver.” Learn how to use Siri.
Siri knows when VoiceOver is on and often reads more information back to you than appears on the screen. You can also use VoiceOver to read what Siri shows on the screen.
Make and receive Phone and FaceTime calls with Siri
Start a call: Say something like, “Call Eliza’s mobile” or “Make a FaceTime call.”
Have Siri announce incoming calls: Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Announce Calls, then choose an option.
When a call comes in, Siri identifies the caller, then asks if you want to answer the call. Say “yes” to accept the call or “no” to decline it.
Have Siri hang up calls: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Siri, tap Call Hangup, then turn on Call Hangup. (Available on iPhone 11, iPhone SE (2nd generation), and later; also available on iPhone XR and iPhone XS when connected using AirPods or Siri-enabled Beats headphones. Requires download of speech models. Not available in all languages.)
To end a call, say something like, “Hey Siri, hang up.” (Participants on the call will hear you.)
Have Siri announce notifications
You can have Siri announce notifications from apps like Messages on your iPhone speaker.
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Siri, then turn on Announce Notifications on Speaker.
Tap Announce Notifications, then for each app, choose whether to announce all notifications or only time-sensitive notifications.
Siri can also announce notifications on supported headphones, when using CarPlay, and on MFi hearing devices.
Adjust Siri accessibility settings
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Siri.
Do any of the following:
Type instead of speak to Siri: Turn on Type to Siri.
To make a request, activate Siri, then interact with Siri using the keyboard and text field.
Set how long Siri waits for you to finish speaking: Below Siri Pause Time, choose Default, Longer, or Longest.
Control voice feedback for Siri: Below Spoken Responses, choose Automatic to have Siri automatically determine when to speak; or choose Prefer Spoken Responses to have Siri speak when possible, including when silent mode is on.
Use “Hey Siri” even when iPhone is covered or facing down: Turn on Always Listen for “Hey Siri.”
Hide apps when Siri is active: Turn off Show Apps Behind Siri.
For general Siri settings, go to Settings > Siri & Search.
