What’s new in tvOS 16 for Apple TV
Here are some of the new features and enhancements in the latest version of tvOS. Not all features and content are available in all countries or regions.
Use Multiview to watch multiple live sports streams at the same time (tvOS 16.5). With your subscription, watch up to four live MLS Season Pass or Friday Night Baseball streams on the same screen at the same time. Multiview also lets you choose different layouts for two- and four-stream viewing. See Watch multiple live sports streams at the same time.
Dim Flashing Lights accessibility feature (tvOS 16.4). Automatically dim flashing or strobing lights during video playback and see where they occur in the timeline. See Reduce screen motion on Apple TV.
MLS Season Pass (tvOS 16.3). Watch every Major League Soccer match this season on the Apple TV app with a subscription to MLS Season Pass. See Browse and watch live sports.
eARC support (tvOS 16.3). Use Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later) with HomePod to play audio from other HDMI devices (like game consoles or DVD players) that are connected to an eARC-supported TV. See Set up HDMI enhanced audio return channel on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later).
Apple Music Sing (tvOS 16.2). Sing along to your favorite songs in Apple Music on Apple TV with real-time, beat-by-beat lyrics. And with Apple TV 4K (3rd generation), you can control the vocal volume on millions of songs. See Sing along with Apple Music on Apple TV.
Siri voice recognition (tvOS 16.2). Set up voice recognition for your Apple ID on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, then use Siri to switch profiles or to get customized recommendations on Apple TV. See Talk to your Apple TV.
Support for new Home architecture (tvOS 16.2). Upgrade the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, or macOS 13.1 for more efficient and reliable control of connected devices in your home when you use Apple TV as a home hub. iCloud Shared Photo Library (tvOS 16.1). Set up iCloud Shared Photo Library on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, then view photos and videos shared by your friends or family in the Photos app on Apple TV. See View iCloud Photos and Shared Photo Library on Apple TV.
iPhone support for Fitness (tvOS 16.1). If you don’t have an Apple Watch, you can use iPhone to join Fitness workouts in the Fitness app on Apple TV. See Apple Fitness app at a glance.
SharePlay support for AirPlay (tvOS 16.1). During SharePlay, use AirPlay to stream video to Apple TV from a Mac with macOS Ventura 13.0 or later. See Watch together using SharePlay on Apple TV.
Support for multiple languages. Add multiple languages to Apple TV so that you can quickly switch input languages when entering text using the onscreen keyboard, or change the display language. See Change the language or region format on Apple TV.
Buddy Controller. Play games on Apple TV with assistance from a friend by combining two game controllers for use as a single player. See Adjust game controller settings on Apple TV.
Support for Personalized Spatial Audio. Use your iPhone with iOS 16 or later to create a Spatial Audio profile that improves sound on AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max when you use them with Apple TV. See Access Spatial Audio and noise controls for AirPods on Apple TV 4K.
My Sports. Turn on My Sports in the Apple TV app to follow your teams on Apple TV as well as across Apple News and other Apple apps on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad. See Sports in the Apple TV app.
