Stream audio and video from your Mac with AirPlay
AirPlay lets you use a Wi-Fi connection to wirelessly stream music, videos, photos and more from your Mac to your favourite speakers (such as HomePod), your Apple TV and certain smart TVs. Just make sure your Mac and other devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Listen to music on your favourite speakers
Get that big band sound by streaming music from your Mac to a HomePod — or two — or any other AirPlay 2–enabled speaker. On your Mac, open the Apple Music app , queue your tunes, click in the playback controls, then select a speaker. See Use HomePod with Music on Mac.
Tip: Broaden your horizons during dinner by listening to your favourite travel podcast on your HomePod. See Listen to podcasts on Mac.
Play movies and more on the big screen
It’s easy to play movies, TV shows and videos on the big screen of your TV. On your Mac, open the Apple TV app , start the show, click in the playback controls, then select your Apple TV or smart TV. See Control what’s playing in the Apple TV app on Mac.
Tip: Found a great video on the web you want to watch with your friends? Use AirPlay straight from the Safari app. See Play web videos in Safari on Mac.
Share photos with everyone in the room
With AirPlay mirroring and your Apple TV, everyone in the room can see what’s playing on your Mac — like a slideshow of wedding photos in the Photos app — on your big screen TV. On your Mac, click Control Centre in the menu bar, click Screen Mirroring, then select your Apple TV or smart TV. See Use AirPlay to stream what’s on your Mac to an HDTV.
To learn which devices are compatible with AirPlay and AirPlay 2, see the Apple Support article AirPlay system requirements.
