Import projects into iMovie on iPad
The tasks below describe different ways to import projects into iMovie on your iPad.
Import an iMovie project from another device using AirDrop
Open iMovie on the device you want to transfer from, then do one of the following:
From the Projects browser: Tap the project you want to transfer.
If you’re editing a project: Tap Done.
Tap the Share button , tap Export Project, tap AirDrop, then tap the device you want to transfer to.
Important: To share the project file (rather than a video file that you can play but not edit), make sure to tap Export Project before you tap AirDrop.
If the other device doesn’t appear automatically, make sure AirDrop is turned on on both devices in Control Center.
On the device you want to transfer to, tap Accept when an AirDrop alert appears.
After you import a project, you must copy its media to the photo library to make that media available in the iMovie media browser for use in other projects. See Manage media imported to iMovie on iPad.
Import an iMovie project from iCloud Drive
In the iMovie app on your iPad, tap the More button at the bottom of the Projects browser, then tap Import Project.
Tap Browse, then navigate to the iMovie folder.
Tap the name of the project you want to import.
When the import is complete, the project opens and can be edited in the same way as any other project.
Import an iMovie project from your Mac using the Finder
Connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac, then open a Finder window on your Mac (click the desktop, then choose File > New Finder Window).
You may be asked to trust the computer you’re connecting your device to. To continue, tap Trust on your device.
Click the device’s name in the sidebar of the Finder window, then click Files in the bar below the device name.
Drag the file you want to add to the device’s Finder window.
Open iMovie on your device.
In the Projects browser, tap the More button at the bottom of the screen, then tap Import Project.
Tap Browse, then navigate to the location of the item you want to import, and tap it.
When the import is complete, the imported project opens. Imported projects can be edited in the same way as other projects.
